I don't recall any Acura ads in the 80s, 90s and vaguely remember one from the last couple years. But clearly, they were the 1st upscale brand from a Japanese car maker and in reading Lexus books, they learned from Acura. Lexus and Infiniti took it a lot more serious, clearly Lexus got it right.
Acura ads from the late 80's were mostly wrapped around the theme; '" Precision Crafted Performance ".

I don't remember and of the early Acura ads. All I know is word of mouth on those cars spread really fast. By the way, I don't recall if Acura came out in late 1985, or in 1986, but the first Legends and Integras were indeed 1986 models. The Legend Coupe followed a year later in 1987, and that was my first real work of mouth experience when my cousin bought a brand new 87 LS Coupe. I was sold on the Legend from then on, and later I ended up buying 3 Legend Coupes, a 91, 95, and a 93 with 6-Speed trans. I remember the NSX well though as that car was out of this world. I never thought I would ever be able to own one. It still is a great car today even though people say it is majoryly underpowered and outdated.

The only early Lexus ads I remember were the LS400 with wine glass on the hood. Otherwise except for the LS400 Lexus really didn't have anything spectacular at the the time. Honestly, I really can't say I'm totally impressed with any of the Lexus ads even today. Many are real nice, but nothing that jumps out at me.

Only thing I remember about Infiniti was the whole clock thing as if no one has done it before.
Lexus, I've always remembered the wine glasses, for some reason that added added a certain class or sophistication to the LS. I come from a MBZ family thats all I've know coming up until about 92, 93 I broke that trend, and I believe that commercial was responsible. Acura, all my friends had Acuras it was a hot thing to have in high school, Acura coupes. Back in those days I use to think the Legend and the Sterling was the same car I couldn't really tell the difference between the two. 91 hit and I fell heads over heals for the Legend but I was stuck on the LS and since my dad wouldn't let me get both hehe I went with the LS. I don't remember seeing any commercials for the legend, heck I don't think there were any.

Hmmm, the next LS 460 has been a promise to take it back to 1989. I wonder what we can expect. I must say the current Lexus ads, for the first time, leave me , not completely won over.
