This pretty much asnwered your question IMHO. I'm going to side with the majority here. The Avalon is good, but why drive the so called "Mini" version if you can get the real thing? I also don't believe the Avalon is anywhere near as close to the LS430 as you believe it is. As much as I don't care for the ES330, I would still pick it over the new Avalon and even Avalon Limited. Between it and an LS430is a no brainer even if you are talking about a used one.

I'd buy the car that T/L builds as competition for Mercedes rather than the car they built to bring Buick owners into the fold.

The only real downside in the cost of ownership equation for the Lexus is (potentially, at least) maintainence cost. The gas mileage/cost difference is immaterial.

Tha Avalon is a wonderful update but as mmarshall said
The LS430, IMO, is one of the finest cars on the planet, with overall quality, engineering, and refinement that is second to none
. That's my opinion, too.

Sit in both, drive both, and I think you'll agree that you won't know why you had a question to begin with...................

The LS 430 even if it's a 2003 is a much better choice than a Avalon, it is one of the best luxury cars for the money and overall so to get a good deal on a used one would make it even better.

Cool

I'm partial to FWD because of living in Canada & the harsh winters we have here, so for me the LS is out of the question (& I don't need a V8 engine!). It's would be a tough call for me between the Avalon & the ES 330 (so I'm waiting for the ES 350 to bow before I make up my mind).

I agree, flip, but he may not have the cash for a 2004 LS...or be able to afford the payments. The LS traditionally has low depreciation, and a 2004 would not be chump change. It would no doubt be substantially more than a new Avalon.

Yes, your part of Canada...a narrow strip on the Pacific Coast....is fairly mild because of the marine influence, but just about the entire rest of the country has brutal winters.
I agree overall...as I said before....about the LS430, but the FWD Avalon would have some traction advantages even in the heavy rains that Vancouver gets.

By the way....glad to see your old logo back. IMO it beats anything you've had since then.
