Ugly ugly ugly. The arches kills it to death. The Bangle interior attempt is garbage, the Maybach rear attempt is garbage the whole car should be scrapped and redesigned.

I am in shock of what they did to the interior. It is identical to the 7, with less wood and elextro gagues instead of traditional. The rear of the interior looks better than the front. I am shocked they would do that.
The car doesn't look bad in that dark cherry, it hides those arches. This car looks Japanese or Korean, it doesn't look German at all. They did do a good job masking the size, since its bigger than the older model

Interesting how they match the color of the two stripes in the taillights with the color of the body. The taillights otherwise look like the ones on the Camry before its recent facelift.
The wheel arches actually look pretty good from most angles except in 3rd-quarter front IMO.
One thing I still can't get over are the triangular headlights. Really look out of place to me.
The hood vents also look kinda ugly, disrupting the smooth surface of the hood.
But man... The new V8 pushes 388hp and 391 ft-lbs... That is A LOT!! 0-100km/h in 5.4sec is very fast for the class too. Impressive to say the least.
Now if only the buyers can live with the carbon copy of the 7-Series interior (likely, judging from the record sales numbers of the new 7), the S-Class is looking to be another success for MB.

A couple of more pics the AmethySC didn't include from germancarfans.com at http://www.germancarfans.com/news.cf...id/2050620.001 .
Looks pretty good from straight front and straight back, particularly since the headlights don't look as triangular in straight front.

Ok, I don't mind the styling inside that much since I liked it in the 7. But MB had to come up with their own design. Everything is copied from the 7 it seems, the I-Drive in the front and BACK, and the controls for the windows seems to be taken out into the 7 and placed there.
The engine seems great. The design will probably grow on me.
One thing looks evident from the pictures: All materials look of HIGH QUALITY.

No doubt this 388 hp V8 will make its way into the 2006 E500. That'll make it quite a beast.
The Germans seem to be getting quite serious about its V8 luxury performance sedans (360 hp 550i and 388 hp E500).

Not too impressed from the pics, but overall it isn't too bad, but maybe it will give a different impression when one gets to see it in person, we'll see.

Ok, feeling a little better now, but still, iDrive, headlights, trunk lid, shifter, entire interior, fender flares, tail lights, and headlights=
I'm truly impressed by the 388hp though! My mom's '04 CLK500 has the 302hp/339lbft 5L V8 and it is FAAAAAST. Is MB going with 4 valve heads yet for their new V8s? Hopefully the new V8 will make it into the CLS, CL, and CLK too.
