And hp increases seem to have been linear in the last 2 decades ... sorta.
1985 corvette 245 hp 1995 Corvette 300 hp with 400 hp Zr1 being sold years previous that..., 2005 corvette... 400 hp, with 505 hp coming up next year... so.. 2015 corvette 500 hp with 605+ hp version?
1986 Accord 98 hp and 110 hp variants. 1996 Accord 145 hp with 170 hp V6 model.
2006 accord 160-240 and 255 hp options. 2016 accord 215 hp 4 cyl with a mid version somewhere in 320 hp range (V6 with direct injection.) And a hybrid at 355 hp.
1987 Ferrari F40, 478 Hp 1995 Ferrari F50 ~520 hp, Ferrari Enzo 650 hp. Next super ferrari 800-900 hp? (FXX is already at 800 hp..)
The only thing that will happen is that now we will see production exotic cars surpassing the 1000 hp, so that guy with the 1000 hp supra will have bone stock vehicles that will match him powerwise but he will still be able to have accelaration numbers on par with the fastest of production cars and still much faster then rest of the stock vehicles.. Mercedes has hp increase rate has been astronomical this last decade but I think very few models will see past 800 hp with the pure exception of its benchmark.
10 years ago only one exotic car surpassed the 600 hp being the mclaren F1 Now we have a super car in development threathening to reach 1000 hp (veyron.) 10 years from now I suspect veyron wont be alone anymore in this hp range, But I doubt well see many cars putting more then this, Ill guess and say that 1200 will be the number that no production car will break anytime soon even crazed exotic car makers like Buggatti. The average performance V8 was in the high 200 hp low 300 hp and the exotic cars were in the 400 hp now you add 100 to 150 hp to that. Maybe same could be said for next 10 years accross the range?

well Toyota did announce that by 2012 they'll surpass GM as the largest automotive company in the world (i think it'll be faster, but anyway). I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota did "raise prices" to help other companies back on track.
