BMW PRODUCES 500,000th X5 SPORTS ACTIVITY VEHICLE
06/10/2005

Spartanburg, SC - June 10, 2005... BMW Manufacturing Co. produced its 500,000th X5 Sports Activity Vehicle today, just five and a half years after its market introduction.

The milestone vehicle is an X5 3.0d, equipped with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine and outfitted with Midnight Blue exterior paint, Walknappa Champagne leather, Mahogany Maritime fine-wood trim, and light alloy V-spoke 19-inch wheels.

The 500,000th X5 will be shipped and delivered to a customer in Hamburg, Germany.

The first X5 sports activity vehicle rolled off the production lines at BMW Manufacturing?s Plant Spartanburg on September 1, 1999. Less than two years later, the 100,000th X5 milestone was reached on August 23, 2001.

The X5 Sports Activity Vehicle is produced exclusively at BMW Manufacturing Co. for distribution to more than 120 markets worldwide. BMW is the largest exporter of U.S.-made automobiles to non-NAFTA countries, exporting 60 percent of its U.S. production.

very very impreesive! i have to say, the x5 is definitely a very common suv on the road. its performance is actually very decent imho. but it's definitley not the most comfortable suv you can get out there. pretty darn stiff setup

My wife bought one in January, she loves it! We just went on a tour of the factory a few weeks ago, it was very impressive! Very cool to see were and how your car is made. We also did the X5 driving school, which was really fun! I was impressed with all the stuff the X5 can do, really handles great on the test track. A fun car to drive, but I still love my Lexus and am not giving it up!

Wow, 500,000 - that's incredible for an expensive small SUV. Well done BMW! I know the RX300 does very well too and may have even outsold the X5, but regardless, I'm still impressed with BMW's success. I drove an X5 4.4 with the 20" rims a while back and it was a stiff ride but handled well.

yeah i particularly like the handling of the car. for a car that high, we drove it during the lexus even track and man, that thing is on rail. we were amazed at the power and the handling of the car

If you think the 4.4 rides great, try the 4.8is! We got to drive both on the test track and did time trials - incredible! You would never know you were in a SUV. It is a sports car ride with performance to match in a SUV body! FUN!!

I cannot lie the damn thing drives great. And it feels very solid. I am impressed by it. But its so damn small with the utility and with the 20s, holy jarring ride batman.

But for a SUV, it drives GREAT and makes you feel a little safer sitting 2 stories high in the air.

Buddy of mine ordered one on Dec 21 and had it 7 days later. Impressive turnaround - especially having the factory here in the US. Unfortunately they had three months of production that had bad valves -he got one of them and has had a stumbling issue which they finally fixed. He still calls me at least once a week and tells me how much he loves the car - he even went to say that with the problems he has had, he would buy another in a heartbeat.

Before ordering my RX, I test drove & almost bought a 1 year old X5 3.0 w/ 19's, silver/black of course, but it had 25K miles, cold weather pack (don't need that!) from NJ, for $42,000. Ride was solid, but a lot of the interior panels were jiggling around, and the gas pedal was sticky. Saved $2K and got a brand new RX.
