Please teach me on Toyota/Lexus engine codes

Default Please teach me on Toyota/Lexus engine codes

I am sure Flipside can help anyone else. Do the letters stand for something? Is there a list of what engines go in what cars. I want to memorize as its something I need to finally learn. Thanks.

Well I only know a few things and they're really not that helpful. I know there was a link on here once that had a site telling what the prefix, suffix, and certain letters all meant but I searched and can't find it anymore. As you probably know, a T in the prefix means turbo, and I want to say that an "FE" suffix means more cruising/touring engine that a sporty engine, I could be wrong though.

I'm with you though, I've been trying to memorize engine codes too recently.

in like 3KZ-TE, i know T stands for turbo and E stands for Electronic fuel injection
GE stands for twin cam?
what else? o well, i think they just named it watever the hell they want

the first number i believe is the generation of the enigine
the next letters two are tell the model
then then the G or F tells wheter it is a performance heads or fuel efficent heads
T for turbo
Z for supercharger

example 1uzfe
1st gen
UZ engine model
FE - fuel efficent heads

1jzgte
1st gen
JZ -model
GTE - turboed with performance heads

yeah if there is a summary that would be awesome. for some reason, i can never remember any of the code names, not even my two cars

i can only remember the gte engine

Check the link, it's pretty comprehensive, but I just wish they explained what "UZ" meant specifically in 1UZ-FE, rather than just "engine family name".

1UZ-FE: Translation

UZ = Block/Engine Family - v8
1 = series (i.e. 3UZ, 2UZ, etc) 1 = 4.0 2=4.7 3=4.3

F = 4 valve/cyl head design 32v. (F - Economy, G - Performance) G head is a true DOHC/Twin cam design)
E = Electronic Fuel Injection

2JZ-GTE: Translation

2 = 3.0L (1 = 2.5L)
JZ= 6 cylinder inline block
G= performance 4valve/cyl head 24v
T= Turbocharged
E = Electronic Fuel Injection

Also... X= Hybrid (1NZ-FXE - Prius 1.5L HSD, 3MZ-FXE RX400h) , Z= Supercharged (4A-GZE - 1.6L AW MR2 Supercharged)

judging from the meanings then, a 2UZ-GTE would be one monstrous engine!!! 4.7L Twin Turbo!!!

But there's one thing, there will never be a G head on a V6 or V8. All G head motors are all inline either I-4 or I-6.

i am at work now, but i definitely am going to check out the links tonight. sounds like it's a lot of good break down information. maybe this will finally help me to remember what damn engine i have in my car

that is kinda what i meant with the 1, as for the generation, the first of the engine series

like the 1zz and 2zz both are 1.8l, but the 1zz was first
and the UZ and JZ are just the engine models, i was giving an easy explanation to figure out how to encode a different engine

like the 4age
4th gen model of the A motor, with performance heads, and electronic fuel injection
