BMW intros IR "night vision" on 7-series
BMW is introducing far-infared imaging on the 7-series according to an article in the South African motoring press. Similar to, but much more sophisticated than the system offered on the Cadillac Deville, the BMW imaging system will not be projected on the windshield, but rather displayed on the "central display" (nav screen). According to BMW, this display will be less "irritating".
Oh, like I-Drive . . .

Putting it in the center Nav display seems like it WOULD REQUIRE the driver to take his/her EYES OFF OF THE ROAD! If you need this thing in the first place because you can't see well enough, maybe you should glue your eyes to the road instead of having to look away from the windshield at the nav screen to see what is coming up ahead of you? Isnt the point of the large glass plate in front of you so that you can see what's coming ahead?

Honda already introduced the same technology/feature in the RL/Legend last year and is actually displayed on a screen infront of the driver. Honda's system will also TELL you through its audible computer WHAT is ahead. So if a human is up ahead, an audible warning will be announced that a person might possibly be up ahead. Additionally, the system will mark the human on the screen so you can see it's location much quicker and in turn, respond just as quick. Same goes for animals.

It is beyond me how BMW, the DRIVERS CAR, is getting more and more complicated where you can't even drive the car. Your playing wtih I-drive, your looking at a radar screen, the steering is electronic, as are the sway bars etc etc etc.
They're once firm stranglehold on the sporty segment is over and they insist on continuing giving people technology they didn't ask for in the first place.
