Default 06 LS power decreased according to newcartestdrive.com

you all probably know this because im always last to find out about things but i just read on newcartestdrive.com that the 06 LS will have its power decreases bu 12 to 278hp and from 325 torqur rating to 312. I think that i read in a previous thread that the 06 SC will have the same treatment, from 300 to 275hp. On newcartestdrive.com it stated something about the SAE. Heres a paragraph stating that.

"The LS 430 comes with a 278-horsepower 4.3-liter aluminum V8 and a six-speed automatic transmission. (The same engine was rated 290 horsepower last year, which might lead some consumers to wonder how Lexus let those 12 horses get away. What has in fact happened is that the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, has revised its test procedures for horsepower and torque, and as a result some of the numbers are coming out lower this year. So in fact all the ponies are still in the stable; but the racing commission is counting them differently. There is no change in performance over last year's model as it's the same.) "

I dont know what all that means really

Power really doesnt matter to me, but i just find it inttresting. I was wondering to myself about what features the 06 LS would have. Thought i would share my thoughts with you all. Either way, i think the LS is the best car out there, I'll take any LS430 model.

It just means the SAE changed the way engine HP is measured and quoted. Doesn't sound like there is any engine change at all.

I'm confused. Why does this new SAE system affect only the LS and the SC? How about other Lexuses? Cars from other manufacturers?

ah so that's the reason why the ratings are changed huh? interesting

i have been wondering why the 06 sc430 will get lowe numbers. well i guess that makes my sc430 with 300hp on paper more precious

This is without any additional tuning for the Z06? Interesting how the new SAE formula would decresse HP rating in the Lexus but increase in the Corvette? There must be some missing information here.

Actually I read about it somewhere, basically SAE used to test HP of the engine alone, now they are doing with its 'attachements' ie water pump, steering pump, alternator, bla bla bah, .. kinda pointless to me but whatever floats their boat

Wonder if this is why the IS350 is rated 310hp in Canada but 306hp in the U.S.?

Probably emissions. CA-certified cars, especially, often run a little less HP / torque than those certified for other states, although recently a number of Northeastern coastal states have adopted CA standards.

I Told you so!!! I am not surprised one bit!!! Lexus overated power output on some of their cars, even though no one really wanted to believe it!

I would pay money to see how much a prime condition recently tuned up, overhauled if your picky sc300 and sc400 especially the early year models would put with the new sae hp standard!

I bet money the sc300 would not see more then 200 hp, and the early years sc400 would be somewhere between 220-235 hp!

I think however the current IS 300 and GS400 would rate close to their claimed outputs though. Im for one am glad that theres a new standard out there so that true hp can be determined, although we will no longer see underated cars. :-\.

In same token I wonder how the previous mustang Cobra, and cars like the subaru forester xt put using this same standard compared to their claimed hp figures.

because some cars were overated, it happens I just think that lexus has been getting away with it for over ten years In SOME of their models, while mazda and ford years ago got caught.

Can't deny this is also a distinct possibility. Oh well, as long as the actual performance does not change I don't see a problem except for Lexus' marketing.

with all these changes, i actually think, why don't they just talk about the hp and tq numbers at the wheels??? isn't that the most meaningful numbers?

Marketers and salesmen don't think the same as engineers

I don't care that the LS430 has lost another 20 hp. It's still faster then the S500 and 745Li
