2005 Ultima GTR 640 - new world record for 0-100 mph-0, 0-60mph in 2.7secs . . .
LOL !!
(from Ultima Press Release) The Ultima Factory, who are the current world record 0-100mph-0 holders, yesterday proved beyond any doubt that the Ultima GTR is the fastest accelerating and decelerating road car on the planet by setting a new world record time of 9.9 seconds for the 0-100mph-0 sprint. This is the first ever sub ten seconds 0-100mph-0 recorded in the world!
The standard factory production specification Ultima GTR was powered by a 377c.i 685bhp Chevrolet V8 engine once again built by American Speed who are the official Original Equipment engine suppliers to Ultima. This engine is a standard part option available from the American Speed pricelist at www.amerspeed.com
The Ultima GTR stormed from 0-60mph in 2.7secs and 0-100mph in 5.5 secs which are in themselves world record times, and braked from 100mph to zero in just 3.9 secs.
Richard Marlow, director of Ultima Sports Ltd and driver of the Ultima GTR during the world record run said “Our new world record once again proves that the Ultima GTR is truly the fastest supercar currently available in the world today, and by a substantial margin. What’s more as with all factory spec Ultima’s the devastatingly fast world record breaking GTR is equally at home on the public roads as it’s an absolute pleasure to drive at normal road speeds thanks to the car’s user-friendly nature and smooth power banded engine. We look forward to the Stig taking on allcomers around the Top Gear test track in our demonstrator assuming of course that the BBC feel it is appropriate to give our British built sportscar the opportunity to humiliate their current lap record holder the Ferrari Enzo.”
The Ultima GTR used on the successful record attempt was fully road legal, fitted with road tyres and was driven to and from the test venue. Once again the world record was strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as official timekeepers, using state of the art Microsat GPS equipment.
A submission has been sent to the Guinness Book of Records.

No matter what they say Ultima is a kit car. You can buy the car wihtout engine and than choose some from the list of "official suppliers" or put your own.
I don't know why they compare themselves to full production automakers and models, realy.

The Ariel Atom does 0-60 in 2.9 sec., not 2.5 sec. according to HERE , so may be Ultima's claim of 2.7 sec as world record is correct afterall

Regardless of whether tha car is considered factory or kit, the performance specs are incredible. ANd the fact that it truly is a street legal race car.
Also, from looking at the first picture, I think it needs a few more flip-up body panels.

Fastest Production Car On EARTH...!
2005 Ultima GTR 640
Previously regarded as the fastest, the top flight McLaren F1 has lost
its place to the Ultima's new record-breaking GTR 640. As a street
legal supercar, fitted with road tires and built to factory
specification, the 640 has reached 0-100-0 mph more than a second
faster then the mighty McLaren. During this run on the Bruntingthorpe
Proving Ground, the Ultima accelerated to 60mph in 2.8 seconds, hit
100 mph 3.0 seconds later, and then slowed to a standstill after only
9.8!
Following the success of the 9.8 run, the GTR 640 has become the
fastest accelerating and decelerating production car in the world.
Furthermore, Ted Marlow, Managing Director of Ultima, is now convinced
that a low nine second run "is possible". Considering the 640 has
outperformed the 0-100-0 times during separate 0-60 and 0-100 mph
tests, he is probably right.
The phenomenal results that the 640 can achieve are made possible
thanks to its exceptional power to weight ratio. Sitting in the center
of its well developed chassis is a normally aspirated 640 bhp 377ci
Chevrolet V8 prepared by AmericanSpeed. Since the body and chassis are
of a 'no frills' design, this engine provides 685 bhp per ton. In
addition, if a customer is willing to sacrifice a little drivability,
AmericanSpeed - the Illinois company responsible for developing the
engine - can supply up to 720 bhp!
Since 1999, Ultima has been offering their low-volume GTR both as a
kit and 'turnkey' car completed by the factory. The press has
described these Ultimas as having McLaren F1 performance for a
fraction of the £630,000 price. In fact, McLaren realized the
potential of this chassis design when they used it to test the F1's
engine and transmission. Since Ultima has created the chassis to
handle many different power train combinations, one GTR with a DART
427 sold at the 2005 Barret-Jackson Auction for a cool $103 000 USD.
In all fairness, the McLaren/Ultima comparison is a little like apples
and oranges. The Ultima is void where the McLaren offers perks such
as upholstery, storage space, active aerodynamics and a LeMans-winning
chassis. However, with no driving aids, both cars do have a direct
connection to the road and are dedicated to performance unlike most
other sports cars today.
