It would be nice if Toyota would bring back an awd Celica, or just a turbocharged engine. Hopefully re-enter WRC and school the WRX's and EVO's
WHISPERS: Toyota Planning New 250-hp Scion tC
Date Posted 08-11-2005
TOKYO — The grapevine in Japan is whispering about a hot, new 250-horsepower pure sport coupe from Toyota, coming next year, which would also double as a new Celica in Japan.
Japan's moles say they've uncovered secret plans for a new pure sport coupe from Toyota, apparently based around the Scion tC. The unnamed model, due in 2006, has 2.4-liter power, like the tC, yet is good for a reputed 250 horsepower.
Toyota is aiming at Honda's stellar Integra Type R (the more exotic, faster version of America's Acura RSX). And the idea would also be to inject some extra speed and enthusiast muscle into the tC.
America will soon bid farewell to the Celica, so this new 250-hp sport coupe would be a welcome replacement. Across in Japan, the talk is Toyota would rebadge it as the eighth-generation Celica.
While the Celica as we know it is 1.8-liter, the story goes that this new model would jump up to a special high-performance 2.0-liter motor, which may be called 2AZ-GE.
What this means to you: Biggest problem with Scion? No power. Thus, this super tC sounds super-cool; let's hope it makes it into the showrooms here.

i really really doubt it'll be RWD. i would love love LOVE to see that happen, as it's the biggest thing i have against the car beside the fact that it could use a little more power. i only got to drive the base model 5-speed, so i can't compare on how the supercharged version is (do they even have the kits out yet?!)

.... come on man.. I know you know better then that... Thats like expecting the next porsche 911 (one after 997) To not be rear engined...
Its based on a fwd chassis, with fwd proportions. At best it will be awd, but it wont be rwd.
And... for most drivers it is naturally more instinctive to control understeer then it is to control over steer, and most experts feel that understeer is the lesser evils of the two. A driver feels mild understeer, he lets go of the gas, the car will tuck its nose in... and if the understeer is mild enough in a car equipped with abs it should still be relatively idiot proof. Oversteer on the other hand.... well some drivers might panic overcorrect, hit the brakes, and make everything worse.

the razor sharp handling and road feel come from the fact that the front wheels are not overburdened with 250 rampaging horses, but only 160. the tC already has a nose-heavy weight ratio to begin with--and it already understeers with the 160 horses. it should be AWD if it can't be RWD. 250 horses for a nose-heavy FWD car just might be TOO much.
and where IS that damn supercharger?

If it's AWD, I think Subaru and Mitsubishi will not want to see that.....but it'll be awesome for us. Just like the Legacy GT in 2 doors.....
As for the understeer, isn't the Acura 3.2TL with 270HP is the most powerful FWD car?

EDIT: And soon to be taken by the 2006 Buick Lucerne with a 4.6L V8 that pushes around 300hp.
