They even raise the entry price at the nudy bars. It now cost as much if not more just to go in than a lap dance. America is going down.

The title of this thread should be renamed to "We're headed for $4 a gallon SOON". I'm going to be pissed when that day comes (probably sometime next month).

YES, freaking strip bars be jacking the price also... even the ugly dancers won't come to you if you don't have at least two Geories on your hands(belt, shirt , mouth....etc).. and as for the HOT stripers.. shoot.. better start breaking them 20's four ways...

BUSH has gone too far.. all that other stuff he has done. i don't really care. but when he mess with chest that i drill over.. he's messing with me..

edit: as always when something bad happends. finger pointing starts and someone is to be the blame.. but i think you're right about not blaming bush..

Bush is not messing with anything...you can't blame him.

We are paying the price....literally......for three things. Exploding demand for oil in Asia that is draining world resources, an expanding American economy that is causing more demand HERE also, and the fact that we have not built a SINGLE new refinery in the last 15 years to add to the supply of gasoline that we can PRODUCE....so we are dependent more than ever on foreign sources. And WHY have we not built refineries? Not because of Bush.....but because of the public's "not in my back yard" obsession whenever new ones ARE proposed.

i don't understand why everyone wants to automatically point the finger at bush as if he is the scapegoat for EVERYTHING. if your car breaks down, is it bush's fault? as mmarshall has pointed out, there are many reasons for the gas prices rising. to say "oh, bush is the reason for all our problems" shows your one sided view on things. the president, whether it be bush or someone else, is not always the person to blame. for this problem, things are being done... but things also take time. people want a quick, right now solution... and that just isn't happening. we may see some relief, but not for a while. and by relief, i mean "prices may fall a very very slight bit."

This is mainly because so much of the oil industry is concentrated in the TX and LA coastal areas....and to a lesser extent the Midland-Odessa areas. Unless you live in a way-out corner of TX like El Paso, Dalhart, Brownsville, Texarkana, etc.....you generally have low transportation costs getting the gas to market there.

The cheapest major name-brand gas I ever saw in the U.S. was in Austin...although admittedly I have not been to Houston...it is probably even cheaper there.

But anyway...
I'm pretty sure prices can and do rise on the expectation of higher crude prices or shortages.

That's poor economics, though. Prices should rise because of ACTUAL shortages, not anticipated ones. If you raise prices prematurely before shortages DO strike, all you do is drive your customers away to other retailers where supplies are still available....and prices have not yet been raised. Of course, if the entire industry gets together and decides to set prices prematurely....that, of course, is illegal ( otherwise known as or price-fixing ) ......and company execs can go to prison for that if it can be proved in court.

Important......check out the Honda Civic Hybrid before you sign on the dotted line for a Prius.

http://automobiles.honda.com/models/...rDetected=True

Not only is the Civic Hybrid much more conventional inside and out than a Prius, but the design is much easier to get used to, it hasn't had the terrific hype in the media that the Prius has had so it generally sells at a cheaper price, (especially with the Prius dealer markups) , you generally don't have to wait in as long a line for one, and it gives roughly the same mileage and emissions. Civics, like most Toyota / Lexus products, are super-reliable but are a little more maintenance-sensitive than most Toyotas. The main difference between the two cars ( besides the obvious Space-Age Pruis styling ) is that the Honda IMA is a series-type hybrid system where the electric motor basically boosts the gas engine rather than the Prius's parallel-type where the gas and electric motors sometimes work independently of each other and sometimes together. Each type has advantages and disadvantages....too complex to go into detail here.

I think people are proud of their ride and want the rest of the world to know they're driving a hybrid. That's why Pruis has a long waiting line and Civic/Accord hybrid don't. People who buy hybrids are basically like us hardcore performance enthusiasts. They like to stand out too.....
