Yes. Forget the thread topic.....$3.00 a gallon prices SOON. Thanks to Katrina, they are HERE NOW. Sorry to sound negative, folks, but I'm just being realistic here. You will see it probably in just a few days...perhaps by Friday or Saturday. If not this wekend, not long after that.

My drive from So. Cal to the Bay area, I saw lots of varying prices, the least was $2.87 to to $3.39 for premium. In doing this 700 mile trip, it cost me about $120 in 3 days. Best MPG was 26 with the A/C on.

As far as the reasons why...doesn't matter...the increase will motivate me to drive a bit less and that in turn will keep the odometer from racking up the miles. Fine with me.

My thread title was meant to reflect national averages. We all know that California, Hawaii, and New York and probably a few other places have significantly higher prices than the national average.

We're not at $3 average yet, but may be there in a couple of months.

Prices keep going up. I paid $3.01 on Sunday, today I see stations with $3.10 for premium. I don't think this is a Katrina aftermath raise in price either so that means prices might go up another $0.15 I believe they said? Damn, I hope not. I didn't think I would ever be paying $3.50 a gallon but after the hurricain $3.25-$3.30 is definately around the corner and who knows after that.

I was in Chicago all of last week and prices were over 3.03 /gallon last week prior to Katrina wreaking havoc and devastation.

Well looks like Jersey and Pa just went over the 3 dollar mark today. I thought I would have never saw that in NJ.

We just got hit with $3.30-$3.50 a gallon overnight. Only good that can come of this is it'll get all those huge SUVs off the road. It's costing me upwards of $60 to fill up the SC now...

So did we in Northern VA...outside DC. I saw $3.01 today for Shell 93-Octane V-Power...the first official price over $3.00 in my home town.

What are you guys (and ladies) in CA paying now for high-test? Flip? Liz? Henry? GS3Tek? Seems to me it's gotta be well over $3 now.....my guess is $3.30 to $3.40

Sounds like it might be time for you to start shopping for a diesel. Unlike us here in America, over there you got a real nice choice of them. Here all we have is VW's. ( for now ).

A Civic Hybrid? You can get them right now for several thousand less than a Prius...but I wouldn't count on that lasting too long as gas prices keep rising.
