Default ZR-1 Goes into the lake at Englishtown

My buddy just sent me this link from CorevtteForums.

Apparently, some kid had his Dad's ZR-1 there and took the car on the autocross track, lost control and KER-SPLASH!!!

Unfortunately, you can't view pics without a login though, but the story is entertaining as hell!!!

I'm going to try to have my friend e-mail me the pics so I can post.

God what a bunch of cry babies. They want to publicly post the Vin number so that no one buys the car.. Something like that would show in a car fax. Still a rather private matter to post over a public forum without owners consent.

I had bad experience in those forums a lot of closemindedness by some of thier members.

And they speak of it as if the car is forever dead.

Its a lot of work but if the car is worth said 25k, dedication and careful resourcing, and a healthy dose of diy, thats more then enough to get this car back in shape BETTER THEN EVER.

As for the kid.. He obviously can't handle 400 hp, he should start in a low powered rwd nimble sporty car if he wants to go that route. Miata, 240sx, would be top of my choice here, If he is a hardcore domestic I guess he could have one of the V-6, f-bodies or Mustang.. but why?

Page 5, post# 82 for the driver's response to the unfortunate accident.

He sounds like a stand up guy who accepts full responibility for what happened. It makes for an interesting read and squashes any chance for the monday morning quarterbacks to guess about what happened.

Can somebody who's a member of the Corvette Forum download some of the better pics and attach them to this thread?

TIA

He does sound like a stand up guy! Takes cajones to post up like he did!

I only wonder why the post from the SCCA cornerman was deleted?? Indications are that he posted something about the incident from his perspective that the mods didn't like. Perhaps the driver was still under full throttle and not full brakes?

Either way, here's a pic of the car coming out of the water.

I know I shouldn't laugh at someone's misfortune but the kid driving daddy's car and the "So who's the U-boat Commander?" crack are just tooooo much!!

In second place, the remark "Mercury Marine did build the motor . . . maybe it was homesick . . ."

Not to worry... Corvette's are basically fiberglass, after all.

Drop a new ZR-1 motor in it (good luck finding one of those) and sell it to the next guy.

The good news for ZR-1 owners: the value of the remaining ZR-1 cars just went up a little.
