Default Peugeot concept - half car, half bike, all cool

IS THIS THE FUTURE OF THE SPORTS CAR?Peugeot's 20Cup concept car will be on display at the Frankfurt auto show.

August 27, 2005

Visitors to Peugeot's almost 3000 square metre stand at this year's Frankfurt auto show will get a look at the possible future of the sports car in the 20Cup, designed by the Peugeot Style Centre.

It's a sporty three-wheeled roadster, highlighting a number of technical features that will appear in future models. It combines car and motorcycle architecture with a single rear wheel and a two-seater cockpit.

The 20Cup is powered by a new petrol engine, built in collaboration with BMW, that develops a claimed 125kW and 240Nm. It has a six-speed manual sequential gearbox controlled by paddles under the steering wheel

Peugeot recently confirmed its presence in motorsport with the announcement of the Le Mans endurance series. The vehicle for the series will be a more conventional (probably four-wheeled) derivative of the 20Cup, using the same drivetrain.

Peugeot design winner

The 20Cup is the result of design competition started by Peugeot in 2000 when it invited amateurs from all over the world over to submit entries via the internet.

The third competition was announced at the 2004 Paris auto show with the theme "design the Peugeot of your dreams for the near future".

Almost 4000 entries were received from more than 100 countries and the winner was the Moovie concept by 23-year-old student André Costa from Lisbon, Portugal.

He will win three prizes: a cheque for €6000 (about R48 000), seeing his design built into a full-size concept car and on show at Frankfurt and having it mass-produced for sale - as a 1/43 miniature

It's like a civilized T-Rex. Cool! I think I saw this on Serious Wheels or something.

Why the hell not. It looks like a viper + is350 and it's gonna be a gas saver, with the shaved weight. It's just going to be some drafts and chill in the back.

Morgan built a popular 3-wheeler as far back as 1909,
Interesting to note that the engine was a Peugeot
twin cylinder producing all of 7 horsepower. The lightweight
single seater was FWD, and later utilized an eight hp,
JAP motorcycle engine.

The Morgan "Trike" was manufactured for a few years
after WWII finally ending production in 1952. Despite
their limited power (by now TEN hp), they were nimble
and lots of fun - the spiritual father of the modern sports car.

Looks pretty interesting, but I wouldn't want to get rear-ended or T-boned in that thing.
