The problem with hybrids is the weight. I drove the RX400h today and could not believe how bad the brakes were. Did they keep the stock brakes on that car or were they upgraded - either way, Lexus needs to do more work, it was hard to stop that thing!

Toyota already has Hino hybrid diesel trucks being sold in Japan and Australia.
Hybrid-diesels *are* a reality, just not for consumer vehicles.
Furthermore, Hino is developing a hybrid-diesel for the US market currently.
It's only a matter of time before some particulate and emissions breakthrough regarding diesels occurs, allowing diesel-hybrids to come into play in consumer vehicles.
