Lightbulb M3 or 911 used for the same price (say 35k)

So which one? The cars have kept the value very well but are now in reach for more people. Do you get the car built as a sports car from the ground up? Or the car that was made to be a sports car? I-6 vs flat 6. RWD vs RWD. coupe vs coupe (though M3 is roomier especially the rear). German vs German. Both have won accolades galore.

Tough question huh?

I haven't even voted it.

Not a tough question for me. Give me the 911 immediately. My roomie has an M3. Beautiful car, STUPID quick, handles like a dream etc etc etc. but way to ordinary for me. I'm not saying its a bad car or that I dont like it, I honestly love the car, but compared to a 911?? Give me the Porsche.

But a Porsche well...heh how do I say this....is a Porsche. Do I really have to say more?? The fact that its much more exclusive wins me over. Rear engined, outstanding performance, great build quality, classy yet sporty good looks.....I can go on, but I think yall understand now.

thats a killer question man, and being you have an es already im guessing you don't need it to be practical? The M is a little more practical but both cars are outstanding. However theres something about owning a porsche that has a nice ring to it.

Can you get a 996 for 35K?

Both cars are great, but about the Porsche - there is no substitute.

Isn't maintenance way higher on the Porsche?

E46 M3 for me. Personally, I was never a huge fan of the 911 anyway from a pure looks perspective. I also would take a front engine RWD over a rear engine RWD car myself. However, throw in the Cayman (I know it is not the same $35K price, but maybe in a few years) and I'd choose the Cayman for its mid engine RWD.

Damn, I'm in the same situation. I'd like to get another car and my choice is an E46 or a 911. I test drove both cars and they are absolutely amazing cars. I might go with the Porsche because like what others said it's more exclusive and classier. Maintenance would be higher with the Porsche but I remember from somewhere that Porsche is next to Lexus on build quality (Lexus being #1).

when i read " m3 or 911" i rite away said e46 in my head. but then i started thinkin a lil bit more, now im a total bimmer freak, always loved M's and will always love them. but i think i would have to go with teh 911, because well to put it immaturely . im a junior in college and how cool would that be to have a 911 in college, haha.

That's a tough one. But where would the golf clubs fit in the 911? And Mike, you like to carry at least a couple of chicks with you at a time...

I had that choice and ended up with an M3, it was the better car ( for me ) since its a better daily driver and can carry more people and has a bigger trunk, it also is faster

Default both under 35k

I can reassure you, that if your looking for either one for under 35k, and way under I might add, let me know. I saw a 02m3 just 3 days ago for 27.5k with 46k on the clock.

porsche 911 (996) all day long between the two.

I say M3 but that would be a biased opinion

Why just these two cars, Mike? What is it about these two....just the extreme sportiness of them? There are lots of good automotive ways to spend 35K.....new or used.
