So their plan for the future is to just re-hash 50s customs?

Looks like a late 40's / early 50's Mercury front end ( very popular with customizers) crossed with a late 30's Bugatti rear end. And that purple color is nice.....purple is a color that is neglected too much in production cars.

Definately a Merc front end. I think the rear looks like a 40's Lincoln Zephyr (with a little Bugatti boat-tail thrown in for good measure!)

This car is a retro look because it is based on a car from Holden in 1954 (FJ) based on a car from the early 50's(48/216) based on a downsized Chev from the late 40's early 50's....it is a project car to show off the Holden design and skill base and capture the aura and charisma of the FJ Holden, one of the most popular Holdens ever built(per capita) in Australia....it is not meant as a pre production model for anything just a visit to the past wrapped in modern materials and technology......it is nothing more, nothing less, than a motor show exhibit to draw attention to the Holden brand.....and it has acheived its goal....just like the revisit to the Torana theme car with the twin turbo 3.6 V6 engine recently....to create interest and comment wrapped in the charismatic package of a now defunct model....it too acheived its goal....even outside Australia.

Looks like a ride out of the " Who Framed Roger Rabbit " movie.

This project was originally sketched in 1989 by Richard Ferlazzo and became a passionate side project for some Holden design team members who are designing the 2006 Holden Commodore headed up by Ferlazzo. It highlights about 20 suppliers of the latest technology...eg fan cooled LED headlights, touch control LCD screen(obtainable on JDM Soarer EMV's almost 15 years ago)proximity sensor door openers, video, kick *** audio etc etc The engine started life as an LS2 but has been modified by Ron Harrop an engine honcho from V8 supercar racing and puts out 480kw and 775Nm of torque....about 11 times more than the original FJ.....as mentioned previously it is not a pre production anything just a side project suitable for street machine and hot rod shows around Australia which has created a lot of press at the Sydney motor show.
