Gas prices are becoming less God-awful...
The lowest I've seen today is $2.69 for regular (from a high ~$3.19 a month or so ago).
Maybe it won't be long until we see low $2 gas again. Anybody else see any large slides in gas prices?

HA yeah right. I strongly believe those $2 days are looong gone. I will be very surprised if I can get regular for $1.89(what it was before prices went sky high)/ Get used to seing $2.50 the least.
To me, I think many people are already getting used to it. I think many people are not trying to change their driving habits.

It is demand ( and short supply ) that drives up gas prices, not necessarily what people THINK is a high...or low price. World demand has been going up for years, even before the hurricanes, while world supply is going down. The only way to long-range price stability is more production and less driving. It is not a matter of talk or about about " sensitized " or " desensitized " Americans....that means nothing as far as price is concerned.
And, in fact, there may even be a good side to higher prices. For years we have neglected new drilling and building new facilities. Now higher prices may encourage that.....if the Government will only allow drilling to start with. More oil production in the future will help keep prices down.

That's what this gas price trend boils down to: Simple economics.

I don't necessarily think Moogie was stating it way you put it mmarshall.
I think Moogie was commenting on the perception of what is a low gas price in the minds of current day Americans. And to most, $2.00 is low. Due to the shock of suddenly paying $3+ for gas, 2 and change is welcomed. Once a person welcomes the new cost, the original cost is forgotten!

$2 gas not being high is not just about perception.
$2 is in fact slightly below the real average historical price ($2.11 in 2005 dollars, I believe) for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the US, ever since the invention of the automobile.

I only put 93 Octane Shell V-Power in the GS and just paid $2.83/g.
Was paying 3.09 previously. My car just seems to run better with the V-Power.
My daily driver gets el cheapo 87 and I'm paying $2.59/g in CT.
