Default Omg Friggin Gravel Trucks

So i'm driving on the I-15 northbound (after just merging from the 56 E) and i'm trying to merge left when this gravel truck pulls in front of me and within 5 seconds my windshield has a crack.

Just wondering, in CA can you make them liable for that? I heard that they are required by law to have a tarp....ARGH i'm just so friggin mad...

it's gonna cost me like $750 for a new windshield....

I went through a similar thing in mn. Here they are required to have a tarp covering the load. I called state patrol, and said all you can do is call the police to cite them for the violation, and call the trucking company to get them to pay for it. Good luck.

you shoulda took down that number on the "hows my driving" sticker and call that number, then tell them what happen and demand them to replace it. they usually will. you pretty much can get any number on any truck. it doesnt matter. but it happened to 2 friends of mine. thats all they did. they got a number from a different truck and called that. if im correct theyll tell you to buy the windshield or whatever and theyll reimburse it.

Covered-load laws ( we have them here in VA too ) don't necessarily stop this. Most of the damage comes, not from stuff flying out of the truck beds, but from all the s - -t lying on the roads that gets kicked by by vehicle tires....especially the big truck dualies.
The worst places to follow a truck, by the way, are near construction sites and on roads that have had salt, sand, and gravel dumped on them after snowstorms.

I feel your pain man. Similar situation happened to me on Rt. 18 in NJ. Two trucks filled with gravel were traveling in front of me. They were uncovered and since it was a windy day, The wind blew the smaller debris straight onto my windshield. It's the worst since I could not do anything to avoid it.

A co-worker of mine was driving home recently and a truck going the other way let loose with a large rock. Below are the pics - pic 1 is the rock, 2 is her passenger seat where it hit, and 3 is where it came in.

Here is the rock

Here is her passenger seat - it needed to be replaced. You can see where the rock hit. The white spots are glass everywhere.

and finally, the windshield and yes, that's the driver's side. Since the truck was going the other way, it entered on an angle. Needless to say, she was very shook up and no, no clue on the truck or license plate.
