Anyone who's familiar with the area I'm in: Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates have Camaro's, fully marked

Yeah, I was born and raised in Wheaton, I remember the Shaumburg police z28's. They also had a lot of those in Aurora

it's pretty amazing how people put so much attention on the avalon, a car that used to be as "family" as the camry

oh, nono, don't get me wrong, i was trying to say something positive. i was trying to say that the avalon used to be such a boring car, very family oriented and no one pay any attention. but suddenly with the recent generation changes, the car really wakes up. very eye catching, sporty, etc...

to the point that we see more nicely modded avalon out there now.

what a big move

In my home town of Vienna, VA the local police have a marked Camaro SS. ( which is redundant because with all the 4-way stop signs you can't speed ANYWHERE ).

Guess it depends on what your definition of boring is. The first-generation Avalon, ( 1995-1999 )for instance, I thought, was a better car than either of the two that followed it. It had, IMO, a better interior, more solid hardware, a NICE ride ( with acceptable but not sports-car handling ) and in general just impressed me lot more than its successors...that is true of a lot of Toyota products at the time.

Now...in your case, if you like sleek lines, yes, I agree with you........the second and third-gen cars could be considered less " boring " . And, without question, the third-gen has the best of the three powertrains.....but interior quality IMO has suffered.

Don't know bout the other states, but here in Cali, i remember in highschool the PD used fixed up cop cars for Drunk driver awreness days. Other than that I remember seeing a CHP Volvo wagon on the I 5 north just past the Grapevine.
Also I remember a Camry All-Trac CHP car back in the day done up by Toysport

As for the Avalon cop car.... I guess it'd be nice to dig for my "Get out of jail Free" card as I'm being hauled away in plush leather!
