Default Seriously considering an '01 Denali

Guys,

I know I should probably listen to Marshall and a few others - but I just can't get away from the Denali.

I testdrove it last night and I really like it. It's a 2001 Yukon Denali AWD with a 6.0l. I know it is a little excessive but damnit I like SUV's!!!

I talked to the salesman for quite some time and I think I should be able to get it for a little under $20k. It has 68k which is a little high but I won't be putting too many miles on it so it should even out. Previous owner was an older woman who lived out of town so most of the miles are highway. Comes with some records but I called where she got her oil changed and they said she was pretty religious about getting her oil changes. ( Max was 3100 before change)

Body is straight and in good shape. No weird noises or anything.

It is white with tan interior.

Comments??

Jonny

Did you check out the brakes on the test-drive? And do they stop OK for you? The reason I ask is that full-size GM trucks and SUV's have had a number of different brake problems for years...not the least among them is a soft, squishy, ineffective brake pedal that has to stop a VERY heavy vehicle at speed. These vehicles are NOT Porsche 911's when it comes to brakes. If you are enthralled with the vehicle, need it for heavy towing or people-moving, can afford the gas for it, and feel that the brakes are OK...go ahead and buy it. Big American used SUV's are a bargain right now if they are in good shape...for obvious reasons.....but please check the brakes on the vehicle you are buying and see if the vehicle stops to your satisfaction. Even on a brand-new 2003 Yukon XL that I checked out for my ex-boss two years ago, the brakes were like a sponge.

Yeah but breaks can be replaced. IMO there is nothing wrong with American Trucks and SUVs. I will never by and American Car, but a heavy duty vehicle i would rock all day

Well, it's not just a matter of replacing parts. The problems were in the design and power assist.
I did not bring this matter up to discourage him...but only to point out a weak design point and make sure his truck stops to his satisfaction...if it does; fine, no problem.

Here is a sample of brake complaints with this design....not just the Silverado but all full-size GM trucks..they are all built on the same platform.

Agreed.....750 a month is a lot for a 5-year-old vehicle.

Just what are your SUV needs? You have made it clear in your posts that that is the type of vehicle you want. SUV's however, cover quite a wide range of vehicles and platforms....from Subaru Outbacks and Toyota RAV4's to Hummer H1's and Ford Excursions.

If you want a big people-mover like the Denali, and are willing to give up some of the Denali's body-on-frame towing capability and off-road abilities in exchange for generally better reliability and MUCH better brakes, I think a used Sequoia......preferably a Certified Toyota Used one......would be your best bet.

let me know what kind of vehicle you want, and what you really want to spend. I am already hunting for a particualr car for a particular person on the board, so if I could help you as well its no problem. Just pm me with list, and what you really need or want. Thats kinda high for a 01 denali anyway.
