New Car Ding from Shipping - need advice
I took delivery of a new car and when I got home I noticed that there is a color mismatch on my hood about an egg shape size. Next day took it back to the dealer and they told me that it was a ding during shipping that they had fixed. Well, to me it is noticable. They told me my options are to repaint the hood, try putting wax on it. I wanted them to replace the hood. The regional manager is out on a cruise and not back until Monday. My question is, how much leverage do I have to get them to replace instead of paint it? The car cost me $75K. Do I have more leverage now (within the 72 hour window) or does it matter? Please advise.

If it is known by the dealership (and documented) that they were aware of this prior to completing the sale, and they did not tell you about it, it is their responsibility to address such concerns to you prior to completing the sales transaction.
In other words, if they did not tell you that something was wrong to complete the deal, then that's their fault. If they did address it to you prior to the sale of the car, and you objected to it, then they would have fixed it (based upon a mutual agreement of costs and other factors).
But now, since they did not address it to you and you now object to it, then it is still their responsibility to provide you service to address the concern. If there is no mutual agreement in repairing the car, then you have a right not to buy the car, and thus get a refund.
Good luck!

When I took it back in, they said that they (the dealership) did not know about the ding and only once I brought it up did they find this out. They said that if the damage was under $300 the shipping department did not tell them.
Only acceptable solution to this for me is to replace the hood. I would ask for a refund if they refused to do so but not sure if I have any leverage on it.

If the shipping department did not tell them of certain damages, that does not protect them from selling you a damaged product. If they stated that the shipping department knew of the damage, then the dealership should deal with the shippers, not with you. The dealership should provide repairs, and any problems regarding costs and compensation should be discussed between the dealership and the shipper.
You recieved damaged goods, and it is the business' responsibility to provide reasonable service to repair the damaged goods.

If you noticed it, it is a problem. Getting a factory like finish through the dealers paint booth is not likely. ask for a completely new hood. If you notice. there IS a problem.

I would demand another car--- this time without defects.

Thanks for everyone's response. I love this forum. I had an SC430. Anyway, I emailed my salesman and said anything short of a new hood is unacceptable and inquired about refund if necessary. I will let you guys know how this turns out.

Before the hood is replaced or repainted, try something much simpler like Blue Coral Scratch remover, or......my favorite.......SCRATCH-OUT. $3-5 a bottle at some drug stores and parts departments.

These products will not only take out surface scratches with a mild abrasive but all kinds of surface paint imperfections as long as they are not too deep.

getting paint matched for new car is pretty simple, and it isnt really matching at all. So, I would ask for repaint and some free accessories...
