Default Gas prices dropping rapidly.

Regular ( 87 Octane ) name-brand gas is going for around $2.15 in my neighborhood. A little further out in VA, away from D.C I've heard reports of it going below $2.00.

Looks like the cutbacks in driving, the purchasing of more economical vehicles, more careful, less aggressive driving, and other conservation measures taken since August, when the supplies were disrupted and the price went way up, is really having an effect. We now have a oil glut......supply exceeds demand....and they HAVE to drop the price to sell it. But in the long run, there is no denying the fact that the rising demand in China and India will push it back up....although probably not wildly in just a few days like Katrina did.

Kroger has $1.99 ($1.96 with your card) at most of their stations. Most stations are still $2.00-2.08. A few have hit the $1.99 but not all.......I've noticed the savings though. it just takes $20 or so to fill up now compared to $40 a couple months ago...

People, though, were really shocked in August-September.....as, let's face it, some of us here at CL also were. Some big changes were made in a lot of buying and driving habits. I suspect, though, that some people with short memories will go back to buying Suburbans and Expeditions. This has GOT to be good news for GM and Ford, in spite of GM's decision today to shut down 9 plants. Large SUV's are by far their most profitable vehicles......Ford, for example, earns about $8000 on every Expedition or Navigator sold.

Now would be a good time to put a "FOR SALE" sign on your jumbo utes - sell them while people aren't so afraid of the gas pumps....
