Default 2001-2002 BMW M3 or 2001-2002 MB C32 AMG

Hey guys,

Which one would you rather have? I've always wanted to own a m3, but the c32 is a m3 killer.

Thanks for your time.

m3 .. i dont like how the c32 looks. c32 looks like the "old mans" sports car.

c32 is a m3 killer? i am not sure. the way i see, on the straight they are head to head and on the track the m3 will walk away clean

i would choose m3 for sure as long as it's not among the first batch with engine problems

bryan are you kidding me you are getting rid of your car?!

just got a 2002 carbon black M3, it is doing well so far, handling is really tight and is a all around sports coupe, has a lot of space as well..

Another reason to get a C32 over M3 is because M3's are a dollar a bucket, while C32 is very rare. Or better off, go with C43 AMG, they are monsterous machines, but full of reliability problems.

i wouldn't get the previous generation c43, that looks so old school, it's almost like saying get the e36 m3.

for some reason i prefer the c55 over the c32

c55 = $$$$

c43 is old school, but I like the look of old school mercedes more than their new looks.

if m3 is unreliable then c32 is straight up a lemon. the early m3 had problems wit the engine, but it was recalled and fixed. the c32 on the other hand will end with a lot of electronical problems. though i havent driven the c32, i have driven the c320 and not much has changed electronically.

Please, M3 engines burn oil and thats considered normal by BMW. I dont know about electrical problems in C320, my brother has a 2002 C320 with 50k on it, no problems so far besides a stuck rear shade.

C32 did not come in a 2001 model...only 2002-2004 with some changes at the start of '03 production (spare tire, bi-xenon standard, etc...)

I have never had an issue with my C32...shoot when I took it in for an oil change (free BTW), they went through and corrected anything they felt was not operating perfectly and all under warranty. The cars aren't perfect machines, but I had the same amount of issues with my GS...none.

C32 is very rare compared to the M3...only 1500 made per year for worldwide distribution...so chances are you'll see one for every 10-20 M3's you see on the road.

Both cars are equally fast (0-60 in 4.9 range) and the M3 will win in the curves, but you are limited to a coupe versus a four door...hence why I got the C32...I need four doors.

The C32 is easier to mod and get great power from...simple chip and pulley will get you close to the 400HP range...or 330+ at the wheels with torque at around 310+. Think RennTech

You can probably get a C32 for a better deal than an M3 at this point (high 20's, low 30's) and still have the warranty that included service (they don't do this with the C55) until 50K miles or 4 years.

I would basically state that you would want to get one with some warranty at least (these are MB & BMW we are talking about) so you are covered at the onset.

Good luck

if it were me I'd go M3 because it handles better but then I might be biased

M3 all the way , I like everything about it more than the C32 AMG, & M3 will beat C32 easily on the track . . .

Usually I would pick the MB, but with this class, I would have to pick the M3. One of the main reasons is the manual option. C32 is a great car, and one of the reasons why I like it is because its a sleeper car. Looks like a regular C-class until you get up close to it. But if the C32 really is going for high20 low 30K like KVA posted, then that is one hell of a deal. I highly doubt the M3's are going for that much now.

As usual, you have to watch out for the quality of these cars as they have had some problems, but it seems a few members here are pretty lucky with their cars.
