Japanese Car Maker Relationships Diagram
1. The charts on these pages show only major tie-ups among and between Japanese automakers and U.S., European, and Chinese automakers. Worldwide, manufacturers have developed more complex alliances than those shown here and this trend is growing as globalization expands.
2. GM Europe includes the subsidiaries of groups such as Opel (Germany) and Vauxhall (UK). Ford Europe also includes subsidiaries such as Ford UK and Ford Germany.
3. The above chart shows only capital and technical tie-ups among automakers. It does not show to what extent they are expanding into other regions or investing in other manufacturers.
4. In principle, the tie-ups shown above cover only technical cooperation related to motor vehicle production and exclude sales tie-ups. Further, such technical cooperation includes only the supply of technology, joint development, supply of finished vehicles (including mutual supply), and joint ventures, while excluding the supply of components.

It did't take into account the recent purchase of GM's share of Fuji by Toyota, but it's pretty cool

The chart, strangely, does not show any connection between Toyota and Subaru. Perhaps it was made before the buyout. Toyota now owns some 17-18% of Subaru ( Fuji heavy Industries ) stock.
Also....I don't see Honda anywhere on this list.....definitely one of the larger Japanese auto firms. For years it was second in Japan only to Toyota. Honda also had a connection to Isuzu when it sold the Isuzu Trooper and Rodeo rebadged and Honda / Acura products.

I remember a while back, actually have the business article.....gonna have to dig in to my mag archives. Commenting on Honda not seeing eye to eye with GM in the business practice of automotive. This issue was in the mid 90s', so I can't remember specifically on what. So I am guessing, if that is the case Honda chose to cut off ties with anybody else affiliated? Possilbe?. Hmmm, I wonder ......Going to start digging!....

OK, guys.....you got all those boxes and arrow directions in your heads now?
Amethy is going to give us a pop quiz.
Seriously...great post, Amethy.
The second part of the chart, though, like the first, still does not seem to show any connection between Toyota and Subaru ( Fuji ). Apparantly it was drawn up before the partial buyout.
