Anyhow this is the fastest time I can remember seeing for a stock Evo....though I'm sure there are faster ones. The Evo, unlike other Mitsubishi AWD systems, comes with an active ( though not driver-controlled like on the STI )center differential and a Helical limited-slip front-differential for maximum flexibility as needed, though LSD's usually dont make that much of a difference unless you are cornering.

Actually, the fact that we give out time slips at our track is one of the main incentives we have to get the kids from racing on the street (I was once one of those racing kids when I grew up). One of our rules is no betting, but nobody really enforces that. At least with a timeslip and rules plus a 3rd party as the referee, you have a much better chance at knowing who won fair and square.

The Evo generally handles better ( at the cost of an excessively stiff ride for street use ), is less garish-looking outside, and will usually beat the STi in a corner, but has a less-reliable and less-well proven AWD system and a turbo intercooler mounted low under the front bumper where it is more exposed to road debris.

When i went to the subaru dealer, the sti also had the water spritzer for the intercooler ,recaro seats and from what i believe the 04's and up got a much needed revamped interior which actually looks quite decent now.
I think the evo and the sti each have their own sexiness about them and is all about preference. They good look good, handle great and have GINORMOUS amounts of power.
