HKS Hipermax RS Coilovers installed!
Last night, X-mas came early for me and I finally got the chance to install my coilovers Many thanks to my buddy steve @ srmotorcars.com in Santa Ana for wrenching late last night as I drank beer and cheered him on. Thanks to Kazu @ HKS for being such a pal. Here are some pics...
The box (HKS super drager sitting on top)
Last weeks paycheck
Steve sleeping on the job
Front (im too lazy to flip)
Rears (so sue me)
Final product (yes we finished late, yes it needs a wash)
My thoughts:
These things are HOT. I love the black coating they put on them, from my buddy at HKS he says they are a "special heat treated coating" looks like powdercoat to me =). I know this doesnt really matter to some of you, but they just look much more expensive than the JIC's or the Tein's. 30 way adjustable? Who in the world will sit there tuning their coilovers for their street car 30 ways? I guess its good to know that if I wanted to I could. From the factory, they come -56mm lower and 16mm lower front and rear respectively. The front may sit a little low for some people.. I scrape the insides of my fender lining when making hard turns or flipping *****es. I lowered the rear another inch or so and the car ended up being slammed. I dont mind the look for now, but I think I'll end up raising it up a bit. The downside of these are they are not adjustable from the shock tower, like the Tein Flex or the JIC FLT-A2's so you cant preload them and you will loose some suspension travel when slamming your car.
My first impression after taking the car around the block.... WOW these are comfortable! I did come from JIC FLTA2's in my SC and Tein SS in the Supra. Both the JIC's and the Tein's had a 14/10kg spring rate, whereas the HKS RS's have 10/7kg. My car actually sits lower than it did before, but the ride is much more tolerant. The car did suffer a minor setback in the freeway onramp handling department, but the tradeoff for the ride quality more than makes up for it. No longer am I chattering my teeth over those dots on the road.... no longer are girls complaining about their ***** bouncing around too much... overall my trip from SD to LA is much more tolerable now. I do have them set at about 20 clicks from full stiffness, but havent really had a chance to play with the settings at all.
Id recommend these coilovers to any Supra or SC who daily drives their car on the street. They are many many times more comfortable than the Tein SS's or the JIC FLTA2's. I'd save those coilovers for a car that may see some track use. Not to mention they come with the HKS bling bling factor, although no stickers were included in the box....
Hope you enjoyed the pics and the writeup...

those coilovers are awesome. if i had the cash to drop on them i wouldnt have this old tein HA technology in my car right now. the purple/black is an awesome combo. I love looking in an engine bay and seeing the purple hats.
