Default Ford December Sales

FORD ACHIEVES FIRST CAR SALES INCREASE SINCE 1999

-Ford Motor Company's December U.S. sales totaled 267,881, down 9 percent compared with a year ago. Full year sales totaled 3.17 million, down 5 percent.

-Full year car sales totaled 1.04 million, up 2 percent compared with a year ago as consumer awareness and demand for new Ford, Mercury and Lincoln cars accelerates. December sales of Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr were 33 percent higher than previous month.

-Full year CUV sales climbed 28 percent; Ford will introduce two more CUVs in 2006.

-Ford's F-Series truck is America 's best selling vehicle for the 24 th year in a row as full year sales eclipse 900,000 for the second year in a row.

-Land Rover achieves record monthly and full year sales.

DEARBORN, Mich., January 4 – Ford Motor Company achieved its first full year increase in car sales since 1999. Full year 2005 car sales totaled 1.04 million, up 2 percent from a year ago. Growing consumer awareness and demand for the company's new mid-size sedans (Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr) built on the success of new cars launched in late 2004 -- the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans and Ford Mustang.

Combined sales for the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr in December were 11,808, up 33 percent from November. The cars were introduced in October.

"Consumer response to our new mid-size sedans has exceeded our expectations," said Steve Lyons, Ford group vice president, North America Marketing, Sales, and Service. "We're confident we can build on our car sales success in 2006."

Consumer demand also continues to grow for the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego full-size sedans. December sales for the Five Hundred were 45 percent higher than a year ago and Montego sales were 87 percent higher. In their first full year, Five Hundred sales totaled 107,932 and Montego sales totaled 27,007.

Although Mustang sales declined in December, full year sales for the legendary pony car were 160,975, up 24 percent compared with full year 2004.

Sales of CUVs (crossover utility vehicles) were up 28 percent in 2005 – outpacing overall growth in the U.S. auto industry's hottest segment. The company's gains in this category were paced by the new Ford Freestyle and Mercury Mariner, which were introduced in late 2004. In December, Freestyle sales were up 66 percent and Mariner sales were up 10 percent. In their first full year, Freestyle sales totaled 76,739 and Mariner sales totaled 34,099. The company's CUV products also include the Ford Escape, America's best-selling CUV, and Volvo's XC70 and XC90.

Later this year, Ford will add two more CUVs – the Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX.

"CUV sales growth will continue to outpace all other categories in the U.S. auto market between now and the end of the decade," said Lyons. "We believe we are in a great position to meet the needs of an increasing number of consumers with our new cars and CUVs."

Ford dealers delivered over 900,000 F-Series trucks in 2005 marking the first time in over 30 years any product has posted back-to-back sales years above this milestone. For the full year, F-Series sales totaled 901,463 – the third best year in the 57-year history of the product. In 2004, F-Series sales were a record 939,511. Ford's F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle, car or truck, for 24 years in a row and the best-selling truck for 29 years in a row.

Land Rover dealers reported record monthly and full year sales. December sales were 6,913, up 26 percent and full year sales were 46,175, up 30 percent. Land Rover's record sales were paced by two all-new models – Range Rover Sport and LR3.

Ford Sales Down in '05, Chrysler Rises

By DEE-ANN DURBIN, AP Auto Writer 1 hour, 9 minutes ago

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday that its sales dropped 4 percent in 2005 as consumer demand for trucks and sport utility vehicles fell in the face of high gas prices.

DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group, meanwhile, said its sales rose 5 percent for the year thanks to hot-selling models like the Chrysler 300.

It was a tumultuous year for automakers, who enjoyed near-record sales thanks to summertime discounts but also watched SUV sales plummet. SUVs have in recent years been automakers' most profitable vehicles.

Ford, the nation's second biggest automaker, said its car sales rose 5 percent for its Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands, but truck and SUV sales fell 8 percent. Sales of Ford's Explorer and Expedition SUVs fell by more than 28 percent.

But Ford said sales of its crossover vehicles — which are car-based SUVs — rose 28 percent, outpacing all other categories and signaling a new trend in buying habits.

"CUV sales will continue to outpace all other categories in the U.S. auto market between now and the end of the decade," said Steve Lyons, Ford's group vice president for North American sales.

Highest Year On Record for Mercedes-Benz USA
MBUSA Achieves 12th Consecutive Year of Sales Growth

December Sales of 31,192 Vehicles Sets Highest Month on Record for MBUSA

MONTVALE, N.J., Jan. 4 -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported the highest sales month in its history with 31,192 new vehicles sold in December, bringing the company to its all-time highest annual sales volume of 224,421.

"Marking a dozen years of continuous sales growth in an increasingly challenging and complex market environment is an impressive achievement on the part of our employees and our retail partners whose enthusiasm and commitment to the brand have given us a competitive edge," said Paul Halata, president and CEO of MBUSA. "Much of our success is a result of our having the most diverse offering in the luxury segment which enables us to adapt readily to changes in consumer demand. We plan to build on that accomplishment in 2006 with the launch of the much-anticipated new generation our flagship S-Class model line in just a few weeks and in the spring, an all-new GL to round out our light truck offering."

Halata attributed the sales growth to the success of the company's ongoing product offensive over the past year with the introduction of two new light truck models, the new generation ML-Class SUV and the R-Class which created a new vehicle segment in the luxury market: the grand sports tourer. MBUSA also introduced the CLS-Class, a unique high-styled four-door coupe which has been in constant demand since its launch last January.

Despite an overall declining light-truck market, MBUSA achieved a 51.8 percent increase in light-truck sales for the year. Combined sales of the brand's coupes and convertibles continued to increase year-over-year.

As a group -- the compact SLK roadster, sporty CLK, top-of-the-line CL coupe, iconic SL roadster, and all-new CLS four-door coupe -- increased 22.5 percent for the year, marking the best year ever for sales of Mercedes-Benz coupes and convertibles. Sales of Mercedes's popular diesel model, the E320 CDI, continued to grow with a 3.3 percent increase (4,299 units vs. 4,158 units).

DECEMBER SALES

Posting its best sales month with 31,192 units sold in December, MBUSA marked its strongest year-end finish with a 17.2 percent increase over last December's sales, the company's former best sales month on record. The C-Class led in sales volume with 9,806 units sold for December, an increase of 10.6 percent over December 2004. Sales growth was also demonstrated by the M-Class model line (117.2 percent) and the SL-Class (1.6 percent).

MERCEDES-BENZ CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED SALES

Separately, through the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned program, MBUSA sold 3,649 pre-owned vehicles in December, bringing annual sales for the year to a total of 44,069 units.

Headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey, MBUSA is responsible for the sales, marketing and service of all Mercedes-Benz products in the United States. More information on MBUSA and its products can be found on the Internet at http://www.mbusa.com/.
