Default What happened with gas prices?

I tanked up yesterday morning at the usual gas station here in NoCal and it was $2.29 a gallon for premium. On my way home last night, the same station, and the two on the adjoining corners had increased prices by 0.16 a gallon to $2.45. Did this happen everywhere or are we NoCal residents just that lucky. Again.

Looks like the post Katrina bubble pop on gas prices may be over and here we go again.

Best I saw last week was $2.19 for premium, the median in our parts of So. Cal has been about $2.29 though.

That's about the same we had for price, until yesterday. Then things went kaboom sometime during the day. I haven't heard of any unusual events like refineries going down so I have no idea why it happened or if it will be the start of this years normal increases.

Aren't prices going up nation wide? I know our gas prices went up as well. We were in the $2.7X range for the last couple of months for premium and now I believe it was supposed to go up by about $0.16 so we might be back in the $2.80X maybe even in the $2.90 range again.

Yup, same here in Jersey. Noticed the bump in price either Yesterday or Wednesday. $2.45 for regular at HESS. (Didn't notice the Premium price though and I'm still at half a tank)

I read that oil barrel prices have shot up because of uncertainties in the Middle East because of Ariel Sharon's condition.

Any excuse, I guess, but he is a great man and a lot was riding on his abilities.

That's what I was afraid of. After gas prices dropped everyone said natural gas would be the big crunch. So far, the winter, except for early December, has not been overly cold. I hate to say it but it sure looks like the dino companies looked around and said to themselves that there wasn't much gouging to be profited from on natural gas so they turned their attention back to gasoline. Just when I go to the SJ auto show and have myself half convinced that 400+hp is really worth going for. 15mpg doesn't do it for me with $3/gal gas and we are on the inevitable way back up. I wonder how this will play in Lexus thinking? From the auto show it is very evident that with the exception of the IS350 they are way behind the competition in the luxo sedan market for hp. But bimmer and merc, not to mention ChryCo, might be left holding the bag is gas prices accelerate the price increases. No news and a $0.16 increase in one day. Bend over and spread em.

The $0.16 increase is only our state. We have a wholesale gas cap that calculates the wholesale gas prices in New York, The golf coast, and one other place. A wholesale gas price is then set. From there the gas companies add the usual state tax and a set MAX profit margine or something like that. The idea is that gas companies sell gas to us at anywhere between the minimum profit or the maximum. Guess what they all do? Yes, they go straight to the max. Why wouldn't they Anyway, it is a very confusing system and I have no idea why they average the prices from those locations since we get a lot of our crude from Alaska and have our own refineries

Same here in Florida...going up again. I don't know the reason why, but do you notice also how prices fall just before holidays then rise again after the holiday is over...this always happens.

See, this is what I don't get... who only fills up once every other month? Does AAA seriously think that all we have to do is put gas in our cars this week and miraculously we'll all avoid having to eventually pay more? Maybe they missed the memo on how it's not 1910 anymore, and some people actually drive their car more than one day a week.

It went up right before Christmas here. It was down to 71 cents a litre (which is really low in Toronto), then on the 23rd it was up to ~90 cents, now it's hovering around 98 cents.

SilverLady has it correct.....it is because of Sharon's condition. Oil traders are afraid of potential instability in the region if Sharon passes away and a power struggle develops. ( as if the Middle East is EVER stable....give me a break ) So the oil traders do what they always do whan they think they can't see through their crystal ball.....jack up bidding prices. Yesterday it closed at $64 a barrel...I don't know what today's price was,
