Now my wife wants a 2001-2002 Sequoia-what to look out for?
At first she wanted an Odyssey, but after learning of the tranny issues, now my wife wants a 2000-2002 Sequoia. Anyone have any knowledge or experience on these? My price range for a used Sequoia will prob buy a 50-75k mile 2001-2002.

The Sequoia is based on the Tundra pickup and as such, shares the Tundra's excellent and refined 4.7L V8 and smooth transmission. It is not an ideal combination of ride and handling, though. Ride is on the stiff side ( for a large vehicle ) and handling is rather sluggish, though the stability control helps. A vehicle this big with a V8 can be expected to use some gas, and this vehicle, of course, has a pretty good-sized gas tank .......so, with rising gas prices again, be ready to pay to fill it up. EPA figures are only 14 city / 17 highway...and you may get less than that. The 4WD models, like the Tundra they are based on, do not have a center differential, and as such the 4WD has to be engaged and disengaged as you go on and off of dry pavement. Consumer Reports ( the best source for auto reliability that I know of ) shows generally better-than-average reliability, like most Toyotas, except for some brake problems creeping up after about 3-4 years...so if you are looking at a 2001-2002, that would be the first thing to have checked out.

Interior on one I looked at a few years ago didn't do it for me. But it sure is roomy, and no doubt reliable.

I have a 2004 Sequoia and have been very pleased with it. Mine has about 11,000+ miles on it now, and I have had not one problem with it. The 2001 model is pretty much the same vehicle. Significant changes were made in the 2005 models.
The only significant problem with the early Sequoias involved the brakes. The rotors were prone to warping. Toyota addressed the problem with a TSB which involved installing larger calipers and pads on the front. Find out from the seller whether or not this has been done on the vehicle you are looking at.
My mileage is mostly highway, and it averages about 17. I have had no problem with the OEM tires. They are wearing evenly, and it looks like they will last at least 40,000 miles.
There is a forum for the Sequoia at www.tundrasolutions.com. You have to sign up to use the forum, but there is no charge. There are numerous threads on this forum about the brake problems on the early models.

limited models are nice, very comfy, and a actual stable ride. The controls are not lx470 material imo, but very able. I know they can had for around 17-19k for 01 and bout a grand and half higher for 02 limited's. White is a popular color and brings the best money, my experience.

I had a 01 limited back in the days, imo the interior uses cheap leather, and too many hard dash, and door panels, True it is not a landcruiser or lx470 but again imo thats toyotas way of making more money with cheap stuff, kind of domestic quality( plymouth voyuger). Ride is stiff, but amazing how even as stiff as it is the interior has no rattles or clunk clanking noise at all. Shifting is smooth, fit and finish is good. Design of the suv is nice as well. The two problem i had with it before i sold it to my inlaw was the first winter in 2002 the four rims, the finish started chipping off warranty covered that, and second for some reason the chrome strips on the doors faded quick after the third year. Is that normal for toyota product? So far my inlaws have put about 50K on the odo, and that thing still pulls hard, and shift smoothly. Good luck on the hunt chuck. Last thing you should be able to find a 01 limited with alittle over 50K for around 24 to 25G.
