TCC has an review of new camry, but it really did not say anything insightful about the car. I think they probably wanted to be first and published it fast, or maybe they had very limited time with the car. They say it is fast, but we have absolutly no clue from the article about what that actually means. They also say SE drivers very differently from XLE, but they really dont post an opinion about it. The NewCarTestDrive.com posted up a review, as well. Vague and obscure, although.

Along with the Edmunds review as well posted here...

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=198698

But I guess I should have posted them in this general Camry thread instead of making a separate one.

Cool USA 2day Review

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/reviews/healey/2006-02-24-camry_x.htm
New Camry ups the fun factor
Toyota's Camry has been the best-selling car in the USA because it offers the feel, the features and the reputation for durability that a broad swath of car buyers prefer.
The 2007 Camry is sleeker than its predecessors.
But Camry's never been considered exciting. Until now, Toyota proclaims. Out with vanilla; in with Neapolitan.

Yeah, right.

The '07 Camry looks appealingly sleeker than its predecessor, but that still leaves a lot of room before you arrive at "sexy" on the style continuum. Toyota, in a search for actual styling instead of mere looks, has blemished the design by borrowing the raised-trunk look from the now-uglified BMW sedans. If you have to swipe from Germans, guys, purloin Audi's lines.

Reasonable people often disagree on matters of taste, though.

Where you're likely to find excitement:

•Under the hood. The optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine turns the sedan into a whoopee-mobile. The new-design engine is rated 268 horsepower, 58 hp more than the 3.3-liter V-6 it replaces. Mileage is up, too: 22 miles per gallon in town, 31 on the highway for the 3.5 vs. 21/29 for the 3.3.

The engine's quick off the mark, and the rate of acceleration seems to get even better as the engine revs faster. Not only fun, it provides plenty of power for those who live in the mountains or routinely carry full loads of people and cargo.

The penalty is torque steer. The test car pulled sideways when full throttle was applied while underway. Mostly annoyance, it has the potential to become a problem if it catches a driver unaware.

The V-6 is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with an easy-to-use manual-shift mode. Six is plenty of speeds to keep the engine revving where it needs to be for best performance.

The test car, a preproduction vehicle, had a glitch in the powertrain. The transition between deceleration and acceleration was jerky, as if the fuel had been shut completely off while slowing and suddenly came back on, in excess, when the throttle was pushed. Toyota says that's unrepresentative and shouldn't be present in showroom models.

Also, the transmission sometimes went through a long, slurring upshift into third gear. Otherwise, fine.

The four-cylinder model, rated 158 hp, wasn't tested. The gasoline-electric hybrid model, rated 192 hp and due in showrooms in May, will be the subject of a future column.

•Inside. The fancier versions, such as the XLE test car, are classy and luxurious. Cheaper versions benefit from Toyota's restraint. Not too many shapes, textures or controls. The best definition of elegance is simplicity.

Exceptions to good taste: The wood still is fake, but there isn't a ton and, in the test car, it was light, like maple, instead of the dreadful orange or dark, dark brown Toyota has used.

And the green tone of the control panel — the plastic itself, not the illumination — seemed ridiculous rather than distinctive.

Leather seats looked great and felt good. Toyota's leather doesn't always sit as good as it looks, so that was a nice surprise.

The rear seat provides generous leg and knee space, as good as some supposedly bigger cars. And the seat itself is comfortable.

Also worth applauding: traction control. Traction systems usually are ineffective and a hindrance. But Camry's seemed tuned just right. It allowed a lot of wheelspin instead of applying the brakes and cutting power at the first hint. Wheelspin often provides progress in some conditions — deep snow, for instance — where traction control typically is a get-stuck control. Pulling from side streets into fast traffic is safer if traction control doesn't take over and unexpectedly slow your car just because you jumped the throttle a little hard.

The Camry was a respectable snow car, making it up the ol' slick, steep driveway with élan. Toyota is nannyish by nature, so a traction control that permitted exuberance was a delightful surprise.

Complaints? But of course.

•Size. The '07 is actually smaller inside than the '06, despite a longer wheelbase and wider body. The differences are marginal but measurable, according to Toyota specifications. There's a half-inch less of headroom. The trunk's 10% smaller. Shoulder and hip room are only fractionally improved, even though the car is an inch wider. Total passenger space is down 0.3%.

•Handling. The front bobbed unduly on bumps, and the car understeered — tried to run wide in corners — more than expected. The SE version is tauter for those who prefer a sportier feel.

•Climate control. The test car had trouble finding a just-right temperature. Possibly a deal-breaker if production cars are like that.

•MPG meter. It resets when you refuel. Toyota says there's no way to track a long trip, or months of driving, as rivals allow.

The '07 is a significant upgrade from the current model. But test-car glitches give pause, even allowing for its preproduction status.

2007 Toyota Camry

•What is it? Full redesign of the best-selling car in the USA; front-wheel-drive, four-door, midsize sedan, manufactured at Georgetown, Ky.

•How soon? On sale next month.

•How much? Prices weren't set.

•What's the drivetrain? Standard: 2.4-liter four-cylinder rated 158 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 161 pounds-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm; five-speed manual transmission.

Optional on all but CE model: 3.5-liter V-6 rated 268 hp at 6,200 rpm, 248 lbs.-ft. at 4,700 rpm; six-speed automatic transmission.

A 192-hp gasoline-electric hybrid version is planned in May.

•What's the safety gear? Front and side-impact air bags for front occupants; front and rear head-curtain bags; anti-lock brakes.

Stability control is optional.

•What's the rest? Standard on all: Air conditioning; power steering, brakes, locks, windows, mirrors; AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with MP3 input jack; cruise control; tilt-adjustable and telescoping steering column.

Other features and options vary by model. Once the cars go on sale, more details will be available at www.toyota.com.

•How big? Similar to the car it replaces. The '07 Camry is 189.2 inches long, 71.7 inches wide, 57.5 inches tall on a 109.3-inch wheelbase. Weight ranges from 3,285 to 3,495 pounds, depending on model and equipment.

Passenger space is listed as 101.4 cubic feet (99.7 with sunroof). Trunk space is listed as 14.5 cubic feet on SE and XLE, 15 cubic feet on CE and LE.

Rated to tow 1,000 pounds.

•How thirsty? Four-cylinder is rated 24 miles per gallon in town, 34 on the highway (manual transmission), 24/33 (automatic). V-6 is rated 22/31. Regular-grade fuel is specified for both engines.

Hybrid is to be rated 43/37.

Trip computer in V-6 XLE test car showed 18.7 mpg around town.

•Overall: No reason to suspect it will surrender the No. 1 sales slot.

Anyone know the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the new Camry V6?

I've heard people say about 7 seconds 0-60, but it has the engine of the heavier Avalon, which does 60 closer to the mid 6 second range. With weight being factored in, the Camry SHOULD be faster than the Avalon and Rav4.
