1970's Dodge Charger TV commercial

Ugh, I swear TV in the 60's and 70's was such (edit..) junk.
Why were all these TV shows and commercials like this? Super bland, cheesy dialect, bad film, no mood music..
Interesting to see some history however..

I'm old enough to remember those cars brand-new in high school. What that commercial did NOT tell you is that, non-withstanding their durable engines and the equally durable TorqueFlite automatic transmission, the average Chrysler product....from Slant-sixes all the way up to Hemis and 440's....had woefully bad assembly quality and fit-and-finish. Panel gaps were uneven and often over an inch wide, the paint jobs ( despite some wild colors ) looked like an enamel kitchen appliance, things often literally fell off, and EVERYTHING creaked, rattled, and squeaked. Dealerships often did warranty work on the same car for months trying to get all of the bugs out. The all-time record for assembly defects on a car tested by Consumer Reports ( 52 ) was the 1970 Charger's cousin.....a 1970 Plymouth Satellite. (They were built in the same plant )
