January 2006 U.S. Auto Sales - Ford Motor Company

* Sales of Ford's new mid-size cars increased 25 percent in January compared with December. Sales of Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr totaled 14,714. * Total car sales were 82,710, up 18 percent compared with a year ago. * Ford's F-Series truck up 7 percent; total truck sales declined 7 percent. * Land Rover reports record January sales, up 34 percent.

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1 -- Ford Motor Company's January U.S. sales increased 2 percent compared with a year ago. Car sales increased 18 percent and truck sales declined 7 percent -- continuing trends seen in 2005. Last year, Ford posted its first car sales increase since 1999.

Ford's new mid-size sedans -- the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr -- continued to gain momentum. Combined sales for the trio totaled 14,714, up 25 percent compared with December. In contrast, Ford estimates U.S. industry sales declined 20 percent from December to January, reflecting historical seasonal patterns. January's sales for the new mid-size sedans translate to an annual sales rate of 220,000 -- well above Ford's original estimates.

Ford's F-Series truck, America's best selling vehicle for 24 years in a row, posted January sales of 52,771 up 7 percent. Sales for most other light trucks declined.

Land Rover dealers reported record January sales of 3,693, up 34 percent. After achieving record sales in 2005, Land Rover continues to benefit from its new models -- the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and LR3.

I for one am buying it when the new engine comes out {the more I look @ the new ES the less I like it - I think the L-Finesse look on all models is getting to be a bit much a la Acura's family resemblence}.

Speaking of which, I may just have to buy an RL - I feel bad for it after looking @ these numbers .... the wicked headlights are nice. But ummm ... poor thing.

Acura Sets Sales Record for January
TSX Posts Record Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1 -- Driven by strong sedan sales, Acura posted record January sales of 13,981 units, surpassing the previous mark of 13,664 set in 2005 and up 2.3 percent versus last year, the division announced today.

Strong sales of Acura's performance luxury sedans helped set a new monthly record of 10,140 for total cars, breaking the 16-year-old record of 10,087 set in 1990. The TSX sports sedan also set a new January sales record, up 42.7 percent compared to 2005. TSX sales of 3,204 units surpassed the previous record of 2,246 vehicles set last January.

"The Acura division hit the ground running this year," said **** Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "The strong demand for Acura vehicles indicates the popularity of the brand among luxury consumers."

The TL performance luxury sedan was Acura's top-selling model with January sales of 4,868, up 2.4 percent over last year. Continued strong demand for the MDX luxury SUV helped result in sales of 3,841 units.

Same here. I just hope I'll like it better over time like the 3GS, which I thought was totally ugly when I first saw the pictures and think it's pretty decent now.
Speaking of which, I may just have to buy an RL - I feel bad for it after looking @ these numbers .... the wicked headlights are nice. But ummm ... poor thing.
LOL buying a car out of sympathy may not be the smartest thing to do. That said, the RL certainly is not a bad car to begin with, especially given the current level of discounts, and with just 773 sold last month it is just sad.

Mercedes-Benz USA Records 12,469 January 2006 New Vehicle Sales

MONTVALE, N.J., Feb. 1, 2006 -- Coming off its twelfth year of consecutive sales increases, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported sales of 12,469 new vehicles for January 2006, up three percent from last January.

Volume for the month was lead by the C-Class with 3,098 units, closely followed by the E-Class with 2,465 new vehicle sales. The new generation M- Class made the highest gains with 1,962 new vehicle sales, a 100 percent increase over January 2005.

In 2005, Mercedes-Benz significantly enhanced its competitive presence in the luxury light truck market with the launch of an all-new design of its popular M-Class model line and took advantage of the opportunity to create a new segment with the introduction of its R-Class, Grand Sports Tourer. Sales for Mercedes vehicles in the luxury light truck segment continue to gain momentum with a 156.6 % increase over January 2005. In 2006, the company plans to continue to expand its presence in the luxury light truck segment with the introduction of the GL-Class.

In February, the flagship 2007 S-Class, which has shaped the upper echelon of the luxury market for five decades, arrives in Mercedes dealerships across the company.

Separately, the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program reported sales of 3,066 units, a 12.9 percent decrease versus the previous January.

MBUSA, headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey, is responsible for the sales, marketing and service of all Mercedes-Benz and Maybach products in the United States. In 2005, MBUSA achieved an all-time sales record of 224,421 new vehicles, setting the highest sales volume ever in its history and achieving twelve consecutive years of sales growth. American Honda Reports January 2006 Record Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1 -- American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted record January sales of 98,394 Honda and Acura vehicles, up 20.7 percent from January 2005, the company announced today. Honda Division also broke records for the eighth consecutive month, with sales up 24.4 percent over January last year to 84,413 vehicles.

Honda Division light truck sales surged 17.6 percent to 37,124 on the strength of Pilot, Odyssey, and Element, while the redesigned 2006 Civic helped drive Honda car sales up 30.4 percent to 47,289 units.

"With annual sales increases for each of the past 12 years, we are committed to continued growth in 2006, despite an increasingly competitive market," said **** Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "Others in the industry are tightening their belts, but we remain committed to steady, incremental growth. The addition of new models, including the Fit in April and the all new CR-V in the fall should push us to another record year in 2006."

Increasing consumer awareness of the Honda Pilot as a class leader in safety content, coupled with the improved fuel economy offered by models equipped with Honda's Variable Cylinder Management(TM) (VCM(TM)), contributed to Pilot's best-ever January with sales up 13.1 percent to 9,999. Sales of Element and Odyssey also grew 14.2 and 10.3 percent, respectively.

Recently named North American Car of the Year, the all-new 2006 Civic Sedan, Coupe and Hybrid models' combination of exciting styling and thrifty fuel economy helped push the Civic to another January record with sales up 56.2 percent, while Accord sales grew 9.8 percent.

Acura Division posted record January sales of 13,981 vehicles, an increase of 2.3 percent over January 2005. Strong sales of Acura's performance luxury sedans helped set a new monthly record of 10,140 for total cars, breaking a 16-year-old record of 10,087 set in 1990.

Chrysler Reports U.S. Sales up 5% for January 2006

* Chrysler Brand Sales Increase 16 Percent * Chrysler 300 Sales Continue Segment-Leading Sales Dominance; 20th Month in Excess of 10,000 Units Sold * Chrysler PT Cruiser Zips to 45 Percent Sales Increase * Jeep(R) Brand Sales Rise 8 Percent * Jeep Wrangler Shows Sales Increase of 2 Percent * Minivan Sales Leader Dodge Caravan Posts 18 Percent Sales Gain; Continues Its 22-Year Position as Minivan Sales Leader

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 1 -- Positioned to launch a company record of 10 all-new products this year, Chrysler Group reported January 2006 U.S. sales increased 5 percent to 155,465 units. January 2005 sales were 148,111 units. All figures reported have the same number of selling days this month versus January one year ago.

"We strengthened our leadership position in key segments such as minivans and large cars with our sales in January," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales. "Our car business is up 20 percent, and our LX products are up 62 percent. The Dodge Caliber begins production today and gives us a strong entry into the small car segment with an attractive price starting at $13,985. We are now a full-time car player."

Sales of the Chrysler 300 totaled 12,746 units, an increase of 26 percent over January 2005 sales of 10,112 units and continuing its leading position in the Luxury Large Car segment, eclipsing its closest competitor by a 2-to-1 margin. January marks the 20th month the Chrysler 300 has surpassed the 10,000 units sold mark since its world introduction in 2004.

The still-popular Chrysler PT Cruiser posted sales of 11,406 units, an increase of 45 percent compared to previous year sales of 7,887 units. The Chrysler PT Cruiser continues to attract new customers because of its versatility, value and fuel economy along with original, cutting-edge styling. Since its introduction in 2000, the highly popular Chrysler PT Cruiser has sold nearly 975,000 units worldwide.

Jeep(R) brand sales rose 8 percent to 29,773 units in part on the strength of the legendary Jeep Wrangler which posted sales of 3,830 units.

Chrysler Group minivan sales continue to be driven by the segment leader Dodge Caravan, which posted sales of 16,273 units, an increase of 18 percent over January 2005 sales of 13,797 units.

Dodge Charger sales continue to grow and rose 26 percent month over month to 8,023 units, compared to sales of 7,137 units in December 2005.

Dodge Neon sales declined 70 percent to 3,347 units as the unit sells down briskly in preparation for the highly anticipated launch of the Dodge Caliber, which officially began production at the Belvidere Assembly Plant today.

"Consumer confidence has increased two consecutive months, interest rates have stabilized and inflation remains in check while other economic indicators are showing positive trends," said Dilts. "The 10 new products we are launching will be a catalyst for sales growth in a strong and competitive market this year."

Chrysler Group finished the month with 550,816 units of inventory, or an 85-day supply.

GM Reports Deliveries in January 2006, Up 6 Percent

Cadillac, HUMMER, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn Post Sales Increases
Deliveries of Chevrolet Tahoe Up 53 Percent; Large Utility Sales Rise 23 Percent
Launch Vehicle Momentum Continues, Paced by DTS, Lucerne, HHR, Impala, G6 and H3

DETROIT - General Motors dealers in the United States sold 296,003 new cars and trucks in January, up 6 percent compared to the same month a year ago. Car sales were up 15 percent and truck sales were comparable to year-ago levels (-0.5 percent).

"We had solid results in January and showed some very encouraging pockets of strength," said Mark LaNeve, General Motors North America vice president, Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "Dealers reported improving traffic in their showrooms and internet lead generation as the month progressed and consumers became aware of our aggressive reduction in sticker prices. Recent new segment entries, Chevrolet HHR, Buick Lucerne and HUMMER H3, continue to accelerate, and we had terrific sales performance for Cadillac DTS, Chevrolet Impala and Pontiac G6. We also had a very encouraging start for the new Chevy Tahoe."

GM's January deliveries were led by a 23 percent increase in full-size sport utility sales. Chevrolet Tahoe, which had a 53 percent sales increase, paced large utility deliveries. Sales of the all-new 2007 Tahoe are off to a strong start, and production of GM's other all-new full-size utilities, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade, is ramping up.

LaNeve went on to explain that while it was early in the launch of GM's all-new full-size utilities, there are a number of positive signs. "Dealers, consumers and third parties have reacted very enthusiastically to these segment-leading new vehicles," LaNeve said. "Sales, production, inventory turn rates and dealer orders are all ahead of plan. It's January, it's early, but we're optimistic that these great new products will be successful."

Small utility deliveries rose 76 percent, led by continuing strong sales of the Chevrolet HHR and Saturn VUE. HHR had its second-best monthly sales since its launch. The new VUE, which posted record January deliveries (up 39.5 percent) drove a 22.5 percent sales improvement for Saturn. This was the eighth consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains for VUE.

GM continued to experience strong sales of its luxury vehicles with Cadillac, HUMMER and Saab all posting January sales increases. Luxury utility deliveries again were driven by the HUMMER H3, which continued the strong sales pace HUMMER began in 2005. HUMMER posted a year-over-year sales record for the ninth consecutive month, and January deliveries were 180 percent greater than year-ago levels.

In addition to improved luxury utility sales, January luxury car deliveries posted a 24 percent gain. Luxury car sales were paced by Cadillac DTS, with deliveries more than double year-ago sales for DeVille, the vehicle it replaced. DTS achieved its second-best sales month since launch, and CTS set a new January sales record (up 6 percent), driving Cadillac to a 5 percent sales improvement. Saab's 34 percent sales gain was paced by the 9-3, which achieved solid sales results, posting a 35 percent improvement over year-ago levels.

Certified Used Vehicles

January sales for all GM certified used vehicle brands, including GM Certified Used Vehicles, Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned, Used Cars from Saturn, Saab Certified Pre-Owned and HUMMER Certified Pre-Owned were 39,491 units, down nearly 2 percent from last year.

GM Certified Used Vehicles, the industry's top-selling manufacturer-certified used brand, posted sales of 34,493 units in January, up 0.5 percent from year-ago levels.

Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles posted sales of 2,943 units in January, down 1 percent. Used Cars from Saturn sold 1,607 units, down 33 percent. Saab Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles sold 434 units, down 2.5 percent. HUMMER Certified Pre-Owned reported 14 units sold in its first month of operation.

"Coming off record certified-segment annual sales in 2005, GM Certified Used Vehicles posted solid sales results in January," LaNeve said. "GM Certified continues to lead all manufacturers in the certified category, and we are optimistic about the prospects for continued growth in 2006."

Suzuki's expanding product line in the United States includes the media-acclaimed 2006 Grand Vitara, the popular Forenza sedan and Forenza Wagon, the five-door Reno, the Aerio and Aerio SX, the Verona and the Suzuki XL-7, one of the most affordable and fuel-efficient seven-passenger SUVs sold in the United States.

In addition to the strong vehicle lineup, Suzuki vehicles feature America's #1 Warranty with its industry-leading 100,000-mile/7-year, zero-deductible, fully transferable limited powertrain warranty.
