As for the GS, I think the word is out that the GS300/430 will soon be replaced with more & more people knowing about it, though still unofficial but I think a couple of salesman here even admitted that already . . .

With BMW, they realistically have only two models that sell well: the 5 Series and the 3 Series. Take them away, and sales drop drastically. Sure, Lexus has had the RX and ES as sales leaders, but things will be more balanced out now, with decent GS sales, and good IS sales coming along. The GS is losing it's competitive edge due to its engines, especially for its price, so the engine change will definitely improve things, as will the hybrid model. I checked the 5 Series sales breakdown, and there are a lot of 5 variations out there. If the GS had that many variations, I would not doubt it's sales would be awfully close to the 5. That's where the hybrid comes in .
Also, GM apparently reported a 6% increase in sales. I am suspect of those numbers, and would be interested in seeing the fleet sales breakdown. GM's retail market share continues to slip, as evident by the enormous percentage of 2005 Q4 sales at GM which were fleet ... something over 30% of total Q4 sales went to fleet. I also read somewhere that total 2005 sales for GM consisted of about 25% fleet sales.
Toyota seems strong with the new Rav 4. It's close to the Escape's numbers, and the V6 wasn't even available in January. I'm also surprised by the Tundra and Tacoma sales; higher than I would expect. Sienna and Scion sales are also surprising.
Edit: Highlander sales appear to be pretty good as well. In you factor in the Highlander as an old aging model, due to be redesigned, and the new Rav 4, then sales haven't changed much, even keeping in mind the hybrid model addition. Looks like there isn't that much cross shopping going on between the Highlander and Rav 4, which was feared by some. This is a good thing, as more potential for sales.

Yea the Rav4 seems to be doing great things. Funny, I dont even see it being advertised that much. Wonder when the current Highlander is getting replaced. Next year maybe??

I actually don't see any Toyota ads, rarely really. I don't know how it is in the States, but here in Canada I seldom see Toyota ads, especially on TV. GM ads though, I see a ton of, especially tons of ads for the Torrent and Uplander : /. Those Uplander sells decently up here, only because it's so darn cheap compared with other vans.
The next Highlander is supposed to be a 2007 or 2008 MY vehicle, and there's an unlikely chance Toyota will show it at New York in April. If not there, then the next chance would be LA in November, or a full year wait until Detroit/Chicago. Although, I doubt we'd have to wait till Chicago to see the new Highlander. Who knows, maybe Toyota is taking their time by putting in the 3rd gen hybrid system?

Didn't take that much digging to discover what's really behind the curtain of January sales
http://money.excite.com/jsp/nw/nwdt_...&date=20060201
"Much of the sales increase registered by Ford Motor Co. (F)(F) and its Big Three counterparts stemmed from increased fleet sales, the head of sales analysis at the No. 2 U.S. auto maker said Wednesday.
Retail sales at Ford, which is struggling to forestall a steady loss of market share in the U.S., fell 6% in January. Sales to fleet customers posted a 21% increase, Pipas said."
Analysts were not wrong after all, because they were clearly taking about retail sales. Analysts don't exactly jump at the idea of discussing fleet sales .
So by this estimation, GM's retail sales probably did experience about a 10% drop, as analysts were predicted. For example, sales of the G6, Impala, and Malibu were all up at GM, but interesting thing is that all three models are known to have notorious fleet sale percentages. I will credit GM to the Tahoe sales though; those rose 53%, and most of that likely did come from retail sales.
