Play tricks when buying a car!
Hi, guys.
I'm about to buy a new IS 350 in Philly, PA. For those who got a good deal on their car, how did u manage to do so? Did you spent a lof of time negotiating with the dealer? What are the general strategy when looking for a dealer who is most likely to offer you a good deal? In other words, what did you say to the dealer that made him give u a lower price, including accessories? Thanks!

That's a secret, so don't go telling anyone else.

Don't frown as if it's the last car in the world, even though you really like the package on a specific car. So what you do is always be ready to get up and walk out. And expect them to chase after you at the lot. This is just some car buying tips I've observed and gone through.

Go in with a check in hand and a firm offer price. They will give you the best deal if you dont waste their time (and yours). If they say no just walk. There are plenty of other dealers in the world.
If you go in and waste their time with long test drives, etc, you owe it to them to make more of a profit. Don't be an ******* customer. I sold cars. ******* customers are the worst.

I am lucky to have 2 dealerships in my town, so I went to another one and said what kinda deal can you give me?
The guy offered 1000 off but didnt have the car I wanted.
I went to the dealership that had the car coming in (that I wanted) and told them the other dealer was giving me 1000 off, and they said they will match it.
So there it is.. a trick of sorts?

Like shaolin said, buy/lease at the end of the month when they are more inclined to deal in order to meet their targets. Also do your research, edmunds.com is always good and Consumer Reports is always helpful. I also find being honest with them helps too.
And if you have any friends who work at dealers or someone that you know of who has dealt with a specific person at a dealership can also be helpful. This way you can get someone who you can trust more than just walking into a dealership blind. I had the good fortune of having a very good friend of mine work at JM Lexus and without even asking I was able to get the best deal possible. I know that isn't always an option, but ask around to your close friends/family and see if there is someone that meets this criteria.
