I would wait for the GS460 instead of the GS430. However, if you want the SC430, get it now.

The reason I would do this is because the SC430, although it will be redesigned by 2008, is pretty much a two-door two-seater (well, it is...) convertible version of the LS. Because of the low volume of sales, you can definately get a good deal for the SC. You just can't go wrong. As for the GS430, it is rather an outdated engine on a new design. You pair a relatively underpowered engine with all those electronic nannies and you end up with so-so performance compared to other cars out there. I think the GS430 doesn't work well for now. When they do upgrade the engines by next year, it will be better.

Good luck with your decision. You're very privilaged to have these two choices!

I didnt feel the power delivery wasnt there, for some reason i felt just as fast in the LS430 which i test drove too and that thing is much larger. IMO out of the cars (excluding SUVS) i think its one of the more outdated ones, and Ive felt this way for a couple years (before GS redesign and all of Lexus new aggressive expansion). Ive never been a fan of its looks

I will feel sorry for anyone getting an 06 ES GS RX unless you get a hell of a deal one one, since 07 RX ES GS will get the 350 engines as their base engine, large hp torque and mileage improvements

You could lease a 2006 SC 430, the monthly payments would be a little lower and lower intial down payment and you could purchase a used 2006 GS 430 that way you can have your cake and eat it too. Just a suggestion.

SC430 curb weight 3840 lb., Coeff.of Drag 0.30.

LS430 curb weight 3955 lb., Coeff.of Drag 0.25 (0.26 for non-UL)
(I think 3990 lb.for UL)

The SC430 is designed to be more like a 2 door convertible LS430, a luxury car, not a sporty car.

I agree. Although I find the 430 has plenty of power, more HP is always better

Exterior wise, I really like the SC design, even in stock form. It's aged gracefully over the years. In stock form, the GS doesn't blow me away, but the kits that have recently been shown in the GS forum are sweet.

Interior wise, the SC seems more luxurious d/t the extra wood treatment. Plus, the saddle interior looks great. But since the SC is an older model, it's lacking the tech features on the GS. The interior/exterior led lighting, smart access / keyless start, newer ML are features missing on the SC.

Either way, you really can't make a bad choice. Good luck.

yeah very true, the sc is definitely lacking some newer features on the gs, like smartkeys and stuff. but yeah, 460 engine, what else can we say

I agree with the masses. If you want the GS, wait until the newer engines come out.
If you don't want to wait, I'd say go for the SC
Enjoy the convertible, since the summer is coming up.

BTW, slightly off topic, since SC is heavy for small car, I can't believe how heavy the SL's are either. The last gen weighed about the same as a 2 door yukon...which magazine said that

Several posters have pointed out the possibility of waiting for the GS460. Thanks, guys, for bringing that up ...I had forgotten that it was also coming out with the LS460. I agree with that suggestion......in addition to my earlier comments about the LS460. The GS460 would be worth waiting for to at least take a look at and test-drive....and, of course, see how much Lexus wants for it. My guess is that it will be a little less then the LS460.....maybe $5000 or $6000.

Please stay with the topic. We're not talking about the SL.

All you guys suggesting the GS460, do you know what the price is going to be?

If you go by that you'd never be able to buy a car. Most cars get better and better in their life cycles. Sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger and live with it.

D-Man, it's a tough choice for you. Personally, I like both cars. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you can live with 2 doors, I'd go for the SC430.

Btw, when is the model slated for a redesign?

It just had a facelift & transmission upgrade last fall, so it should last another 2 years I would think ?

GS 450h.

Be one of the few modded hybrids in the world. Imagine the conversation piece this car is going to be. And it just got tested in Europe, they got 34mpg, no joke. Then you get 335hp

That is waht I would do
