600hp from a blown Z06 motor? Wow 100hp. Someone could get that with a couple boltons and a cam upgrade.... give me a break.

Make it 650 or 700 then we're talkin.

Eat Enzos for lunch? Maybe in a straight line. If you think it will outdo it on a track... then ROFLMAO at YOU

Methinks someone is a little misinformed and may need to do some additional reading on the Z06.

Hint: the "can't handle a curve" line died out sometime in the 90's.

The newer GM performance models are kicking *** on all fronts. In tests, the Z06 walked over everything else and at a quarter of the price, the Cobalt SS recently took first place in performance against the GTI and the Civic Si (that includes handling) and we know how the MX-5 is doing against the Sostice/Sky.

Perhaps you need to see this vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9bByWD4Oxs&search The Vette can do a little over a G on the skid pad and it beat out the Pagani Zonda on the German Nubergring.

Not to poo poo the performance of the Z, but thats the old Zonda of 2003. Pagani doesn't even manufacture that version of the car anymore. In the Fifth Gear video you posted, Tiff made a slight booboo when he said "Zonda F" because the Zonda F is nearly 10 seconds faster around the Nur than the Z06.

If the zo6 can post these numbers and better, can you imagine the faster, lighter, more powerful Bluedevil /Stingray Chevy will probably lower the price to 95k.

I'll gladly be the first "hater."

First- the Z06 is a fantastic driving package, especially for the money. The "Blue Devil" appears to be quite aggresive as well with more power and less weight.

However, Chevrolet seems to have ignored areas where the current Z06 could be improved, and in turn "improved" the Z06 in the areas it needed the LEAST help... weight and power.

Why not try and improve the chassis? or driving dynamics? steering... brakes? I guess they are already good enough for Chevrolet. 505 hp and 3150 pounds is more then sufficient. Even by supercar standards that power/weight ratio is fantastic. The Z06 does NOT need more power. If anything, it needs more traction.

If the new engine proves to be a supercharged DOHC, it should weigh more then the current engine. Like I've learned from some knowledgeable people on this forum, a 6.0L+ Supercharged/Intercooled DOHC Engine with dry sump is going to weigh a LOT. If the car is to weigh less overall then it is now, the weight distribution will be even more front-heavy. This means, even less traction (which will be exagerrated with even more power).

The Blue Devil might be mighty fast in the straight line, but I just see a further unbalancing of the car. Corvettes don't appear like they will stray from the tradition of front-engine rear-drive, with clean lines (no wings and spoilers). As the car evolves and gets lighter and more powerful, the chassis, suspension, and brakes will all once again fall behind.

And don't forget the important part of the Z06's equation: affordability. 100k for the Blue Devil is stepping into an entirely different range of cars. Only an extremely wealthy person is going to tear around town in a tail slide with a 100k car. It will practically be TWICE the price.

In 6-7 years, what will the Corvette be like? 2500 pounds with 800hp? Also FR with street tires maybe at 40cm wide (still with no downforce on the rear of the car as well). Sounds more like a drag racing car with the wrong tires equipped.

I would prefer a Z06 with traction and short gearing.

I've driven the standard C6 vette, and nevr had an opportunity to drive the ZO6. Let me tell you, the c6 is a well balanced high performance machine. The brakes are incredible and the car corners so flat. I could not believe this car was American. It feels more German than American. I can only imagine the zo6 being better, and the stingray beyond belief. Drive a c6 platform Vette and your mind will change.

Super Vette Spied! Again!
Chevy’s 650-hp Corvette SS caught heading in for EPA testing

AutoWeek | Published 11/06/06, 9:03 am et

Not even a month has passed since we first reported on Chevrolet’s plans for a super Corvette, a halo model well in excess of the already superb Z06. Judging by these spy shots, it appears assurances we were given earlier this year that the car was on the development fast track (“To Hell and Back,” May 8) were right on target.

These photos were taken by George Kachadoorian just outside of Ann Arbor last week. He suspects the car was headed in for EPA testing.

While the hood scoop indicates this is something other than an ordinary Z06, the real prize is under the hood where our spies previously heard the whine of what is most likely a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 pushing as much as 650 hp. The engine, which will be hand-built at a rate of 1500-2000 per year at the General Motors Performance Center outside Detroit, features an integrated intake manifold intercooler similar to the one GM developed for the Cadillac STS V-Series.

So far, names for the production supercharged Corvette include everything from Z07 to Blue Devil to Corvette SS to Sting Ray. No matter what they call it, look for production of the 2009 model to start in early 2008. And set aside at least $100,000 if you want to one in your driveway.
