Would you like gullwings with that? Hamann's swoopy take on the BMW M6.


Hamann Motorsport's M6 Edition Race has a tidy top speed of 199 mph and a 1.2-inch-lower ride height with the suspension-lowering kit.

LAUPHEIM, Germany — Hamann Motorsport has installed its custom-fitted gullwing doors on a wide variety of vehicles, from the Mercedes-Benz SL to the Lamborghini Gallardo.

So a set of flip-up doors for the BMW M6 seemed like a natural. But the German tuner didn't stop there.

Hamann now offers a full wide-body kit for the M6 called Edition Race that offers three different stages of engine tune for BMW's mighty 5.0-liter V10. The ultimate stage includes removing the rev limiter, reprogramming the ECU and fitting high-performance headers and a free-flowing exhaust system with metallic sports catalytic converters and mufflers

The result is a boost in output to 567 horsepower and 423 pound-feet of torque, with top speed rising to 199 mph.

As for the Edition Race aero kit, it bundles fiberglass pieces for the front, rear and sides, including roof and deck lid spoilers (also offered in carbon/Kevlar) and fender extensions.

A suspension-lowering kit drops the ride height by up to 1.2 inches. Brakes are upgraded with racing-style discs. Hamann also offers a variety of custom wheels in sizes up to 21 inches.

Interior enhancements include a choice of materials and designs, plus such amenities as a TV and a Sony PlayStation.
