i used to own a mk3 turbo, not bad car...was pretty quick but heavy as hell (reason for selling it)...the car never gave me problems and was reliable as i maintained it well...as for exterior changes, the 86.5-88 had different front bumpers, rear wing, and tails from the 89-92...the 89-92 did look more appealing/aggresive but other than that their basically the same as for outside...interior i never noticed a difference between the two, maybe color combo's thats all....as far as downsides, the factory alarm gave me problems--some mk3's have the problem some dont, other than than nothing that woulndt be considered regular maintenance

yes those things are a lot of pain if you dont take care of them. when you buy one, make sure you replace the headgasket with a metal one and make sure it gets torqued down properly...
toyota didn't torque down the 7m heads correctly from the factory so the headgaskets go out on almost all of them within 70-130,000 miles

My first car (that was acutally mine) was a 1990 NA supra 5-speed. The car was super heavy but fun to drive. Mine was white with blue interior and since it was a 1990 had the cooler of the 2 types of tails. I threw a rod and blew the head gasket but thank god I did cause my next car after that was a 94 GS!

i cant imagine it getting any better than 22-23 with a 5 speed... and that is probably pushing it.

i cant tell you about the ride because my only experience with them is in a toyota cressida... same drivetrain suspension etc as a MK 3, just on a 4 door.
