The GTI are meant for a younger market (such as those ravers and ricers seen in the GTI commercials) that want a value car with a little more spirit than a Toyota Corolla or (gasp!) a Honda Civic. Definately not targeted to the people in this forum.
If this type of advertising makes you think about and question what the GTI is all about, VW marketers have done their jobs properly! Think about it: we are skewed to talk about Lexus yet we just added a VM thread because of their advertising!!! Try to see if there is a Lexus thread on a VW Forum about our commercials...

I don't think it says much when they have to compare their car to cheesy riced out cars.
Show an actual stock competitor like a Mitsu EVO VIII. Then see how it does.
What's up with the poor rendition of an Audi grill on this thing anyway. Looks way to oversized on this little car.
VW and Audi are becoming to related in a market where auto divisions are trying so hard to differentiate their models.
