What do you think about the new VW commercials?
Let me be frank. I thought the previous VW commercials with the 20-somethings alternative brunettes trying to maintain part of their youth and identity was completely lame. Now, VW has
an even worse ad campaign for its redesigned GTI.
There is an old German guy talking ebonics trash on tuned imports and domestics and his blonde side kick is not even good looking. I think they really missed the mark on this one. REALLY missed.
If you haven't seen the commercials, they can be found on video.goole.com. Here are a couple
links:

Commercial 2
Commercial 3
If anything, I think a lot of potential car buys will be turned off by these ads. If VW wants to start
trash talking, I hope they had the goods to back it up.

yea. i agree. That is a horrible way to advertise a car. That guy is dissing himself in every commercial. Thanks for sharing though. I have never seen those commercials before.
However, I have to say, that I like the new GTI. Their advertising is horrible, but it LOOKS like a good car. I dunno how it drives, or how reliability is.

I actually like the commercials
Somewhat related....my friend just bought a brand new black GTI, it's a really nice car. I'll have pics when the coilovers and BBS LM's are on

Funniest commercials ever - I love them. Of course he is "dissing himself" that is the whole point - to be funny and poke fun at the ******* who screw up - I mean "pimp" their cars!!... Great ads, good job VW

Those commercials are not aimed towards Lexus owners. For the market they are after they work very well - the fact that I've seen posts about them on every single car forum I read means they're accomplishing exactly what they wanted.

Which was more memorable: the new IS commercials, or the VW GTI commercials?
See the point...
The GTI are meant for a younger market (such as those ravers and ricers seen in the GTI commercials) that want a value car with a little more spirit than a Toyota Corolla or (gasp!) a Honda Civic. Definately not targeted to the people in this forum.
If this type of advertising makes you think about and question what the GTI is all about, VW marketers have done their jobs properly! Think about it: we are skewed to talk about Lexus yet we just added a VM thread because of their advertising!!! Try to see if there is a Lexus thread on a VW Forum about our commercials...

The commercials are funny for what they are, and they are memorable. That's all they need to acheive. For the record, though, I still giggle every time I hear 'German engineering in ze haus.'
