After reviewing things, I think the SC is more of a classic, as in coupe, great handling car, timeless inside and out. It really broke the mold for Japanese GTs.
But the LS, it IS the Japanese luxury sedan. You think Japanese luxury, you instantly think LS. It changed so many things, not just how it drove and how quiet it was but PERCEPTIONS. It made an immediate impact.
Very few cars do that. VERY few.
I think the crazy thing about it being a classic, a damn 1989 LS in 2050 will STILL BE RUNNING LIKE NEW!
The market will ultimately determine if its a classic.

We had a 1990 LS400 for 10 years and put 130K on and loved every minute of it.
I remember the car didn't even have an LS400 badge on it, yet everyone that saw it knew exactly what it was.
OK so my biased vote is for the LS

Just think, 20-30 years from now it looks like the 1st gen LS and SC (they are winning the votes) will be sitting at the same car show with muscle cars and such. well maybe in a different category.

The sc300/400 all the way... no question..
I still remember back in 1993 seeing a dropped pearl white sc400 on bbs wheels and my mouth dropping.. That car will be a classic.

A true classic is the rarest of the breed. I'm curious how many 1st gen LS's & SC's were sold? Cars are instant classics when they are limited production pieces like the 67' Shelby GT500. The 67' Shelby GT350 is not as coveted as the 67' GT500.

Looks like we need a clear definition of classic:
Classic = vintage
Classic = one of a kind
Classic = limited production
Classic = ahead of it's time
Classic = the best of it's type
Classic = the newest innovations
Classic = superior design
How's this list? Does either of these cars rate? I still say the LS put Lexus on the map but the SC matches more of my definitions.

Good thought, Reggie. Let's not get classic and antique confused. IMO, classic is all of the above, though it doesn't always include antique/vintage. Any car can be vintage if it's 25 or older.

Come on people... the one that really started it all was the rebadged Camry, the ES250 with all of it's cloth and smallness...
Seriously, don't you need to impact a market or stand out, to be a classic? The LS, SC, ES were all pretty much BMW and Mercedes catch-up vehicles (now surpasses them, IMHO) in the beginning. I think the RX300 takes the vote for being a 'classic' in 25 years. I think it was first 'cross-over' SUV to market that PEOPLE WANTED TO BUY !!! It probably started this whole bigger is better in SUV craze that's still going crazy, but hopefully dying down.
