back as a teenager it was standard procedure to kill the engine on the road, kill the lights, and steer into the driveway and not wake my parents

it's kinda weird, what's wrong if he shifts it to neutral? coz' the car is at redline the engine can't disengage?!?!

and no, shutting the car off would be BAD idea, coz' it kills the whole steering mechanism, you can't even turn your steering wheel!!!!! try to turn your steering wheel when the car is shut down, it locks up itself right the way
Actually your incorrect.

1) The guy was out of it and should have turned the car off. If you leave the ACC on you will still have full steering control just no power.

2) He could have thrown it into N and let the engine rev off the rev limited, if it blows so what, it can be fixed or replaced a life can't.

3) He could have downshifted the transmission to 3-2-1 when he hit the brakes this would have kept the car from going any faster than the gear limited him too.

IMHO its his fault he wasn;'t smart enough to get through this. Oh well.

Examinations of the car by BMW and police after the incident in March found no defects.

Nottinghamshire police confirmed Monday that Nicolle had been arrested in connection with the incident.

"A 26-year-old man was arrested on May 24 in connection with a road traffic collision, which occurred at the A1 roundabout at Blyth in Nottinghamshire Sunday, March 4, a spokeswoman said.

The man had been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Thanks for the follow-up, Gene. Glad the Police saw through his b.s.
