Have you seen the new CL? There's another thread on it that would make any potential buyer want to buy used instead

Interesting, I didn't realize E60 BMW's were available with a manual transmission until today. Someone told me they had eliminated them in favor of auto/SMG so I hadn't really considered them. I'm going to drive a 6 speed 545i before I buy anything. Thanks!

I agree with the comment above about the new CL class Mercedes, they don't look nearly as nice as the current body style.

Exactly that's why I love the current CL.

Hello,
I love the cl55 but like 4 doors. I would get the e55 amg. Still very nice.

of the whole list, i would choose m5 easily too.

mb is nice, but the cl is a complete headache. tons of problems if you go read other forums
m3 is too small and too "young" for me already, i need something bigger and better
is350 for the same resaon, too small
gs430 is nice, but NO WAY I AM GETTING IT since gs460 is coming. it's almost silly to get the gs430 now
745 is nice, but comparing to the m5 i think the m5 is a clear winner

the new m5 is out, the price of the e39 should take a little dump soon. it's a bit dated but it's still one tremendous machine!~

i think in the 40k range, i would choose the M5.....although it is already old but still pretty nice if you can find one thats in good condition and been well taken care of...
M3 will be a very nice choice too but a bit small..

By "New" I meant the E60 body style. There are quite a few of them advertised in the $80k range with 3k miles or so.

I agree. I'm just wondering when that dump is going to happen or if it's happened already.

I've been looking at 01-02 M5's with 20-40k miles in the $38k-$44k range. Does this signify a "dump" or am I going to be buying a car that'll be worth $10k less in 6 months?

yeah i have been wondering too. the new m5 is out but by no means common yet, the waiting list is still as long as you can imagine, so supply is very limited with demand sky high. unless you see the m5 more common on the road i think the e39 price might stay a bit.

but a while back, i think early last yr? when more people were aware of the new e60 m5 release, i did see quite a few e39 on the market, that's when the first price dip was i'd say

Hands down, I would get an M5. (previous gen ofcourse).

I don't think there is a single 4-door car out there that can beat that cars combination of speed/handling/luxury/prestige by even a close margin.

If I could sell my GS400 for the price I want (nobody would pay me what I want ofcourse), I would get an M5 immediately. I just love that car!

The manual 545s do not hold their value as well. They tend to go for about $3K less than an auto. So mid $40s is easily possible. In fact, there are plenty of autos available in that price range as well. Just like all luxury cars, BMWs take their biggest hit in year one (and surprisingly year four).

Why year 4? Would you attribute that to body style changes or warranty expiration perhaps?
Do you think the E39 M5 has already taken its 4 year hit?

Just curious...I've never owned a BMW or looked closely at them before now...

i say wait for the LS 460 :

back massage anyone?

...oh and " lexus promises 0-to-60-mph time of under 5.5 seconds... 19-speaker levinson system... and Company officials were scant on the details, but we're told that the system will indeed park the car for you with a little brake input from the driver "

Sounds great but I doubt it'll be in my price range ($40k)
