I have no problem with that

With 3 versions of the Crown in Japan, no wonder they are not buying a lot of Lexus cars, particularly the GS. Their roads probably favour the Crown over the more sporty, bigger engine GS350/430 too. . .

Yes, & don't confuse the Toyota Crown Royal, Crown Athlete & Crown Majesta, which are luxury cars, with the Toyota Crown Sedan, which has a totally different(old fashion looking) body style & are used as taxi's in Asia. Click Here for specs. & pic of body style etc.

and that's why they are trying to so hard with the gs in japan right now. one reason for lexus introduction in japan together with 4 completely redesign over 2 yrs for lexus (GS, IS, LS, and ES) is that they wanna use this chance to make japanese market completely separate these two brands. it's definitely tough for them.

and man, the athlete is so nice, and the majesta is not far behind imho as well!

i think thats whats the toyota avalon should have looked like. i perfer that styling over the new avalon. even though i like the new avalon, i think that this could have been easily passed as the avalon if here in the US

They need a large full size sedan as the Avalon here, & the Crown is smaller than the Avalon . . . I suppose they can make a LWB version of the crown & make it the Avalon ? They have to strip it down a bit too I think since the Crown's are more luxurious built than the Avalon, they can be more like a mid-sized LS430 . . .

Is this the reason why Lexus is not doing well in japan? I mean, these are awesome looking cars So I am thinking why would anyone (Japanese) pay more for the Lexus when these Toyota are pretty much the same? Unless the Lexus version in Japan is light years ahead of the Toyota copies, I don't see why would one foolishly buy one.

correct, the crown is actually about the size of the US camry, so it's not a big car at all. it definitely can't replace the avalon here.

and about lexus vs toyota, like i said in the previous post, it will take time. japanese still associate toyota with lexus a lot, and lexus is doing very hard there now with all the new models to pull themselves away from toyota. these cars (crown for example) are nice, but then again lexus is now setting another bar even higher for their lineup

LOL, Toyota Crown taxi cabs in Singapore.

Here's a Hong Kong version...

Damn are those things roomy in the back. I can cross my legs. RWD too. The ones in Singapore are naturally aspirated 4-cyl diesels and they do about 100-200k miles per year and can usually go about 1-2 yrs between engine/tranny rebuilds.

I think the taxi cab Crown (Deluxe or Comfort I think) could look pretty nice with some 20's and on bags.

Back to the Athlete, I didn't see lot's of them on the roads there. Over here, it would be nice to see a RWD sedan back in the Toyota lineup. I think it's close in size to the then '89+ Cressida.

Then, how much different is the Crown Athlete to the Chaser?
