Haha, how can anyone tell it's sweet when you can't even see the front. of the chop. It does seem to have an overall attractive shape though. Based on this CGI alone, I'd still take the current SL over it.

It's amazing what a die hard BMW fan will do. Then again, they have 35+ M6 deposits, 15 or so on the M6 Cabrio and 30+ on the new M3 that likely won't appear until early 2008.

Hard to tell, of course, from just one picture....and not a photo at that....but in the posted shot it looks a little too small to compete with the SL class. The SL is a pretty-good-sized convertible ( much larger than its little brother SLK ) and this BMW looks to me at least to be more along the lines of the smaller SLK.

Sensational new Z8 is a blue wonder
Tuesday 11th April 2006
The Z8 is back with a vengeance! The exclusive pictures in this week's mag show BMW's sizzling new V12 two-seater, which gets a folding roof and a lightweight aluminium body. Designed to rival the forthcoming Audi R8 and the Ferrari F430, the Z8 will be the fastest and most advanced BMW ever.
As with its predecessor, axed in 2003, it features a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout.
The Z8 will be based on the platform of the next 5-Series, but boasts separate bolt-on aluminium sections. Light materials should keep the weight down to around 1,500kg, giving the car searing pace. Even the base 310bhp 3.0 straight-six turbo should cover 0-60mph in six seconds and go on to 155mph.
A new 410bhp 4.4-litre turbo V8 will also be offered, alongside a 515bhp version of the existing 5.0-litre V10 from the M5 and M6. The flagship Z8M gets a new 610bhp 6.3-litre turbocharged V12, and should be capable of a sub-five-second 0-60mph sprint time. Gearbox options will include the company's seven-speed F1-style semi-automatic.
The Z8 will be a technological showcase, and features BMW's latest active steering system, adaptive suspension and a speed-activated pop-up boot spoiler. All models get an electric folding roof, and this could incorporate photo-chromatic glass panels, letting drivers control how much light enters the cabin.
An adjustable wind deflector reduces buffeting at speed, while a version of the Mercedes SLK's Airscarf - which circulates hot air around the neck - will ensure occupants are kept warm when the roof is down. The Z8 is due here in 2010, priced from £65,000.
Meanwhile, BMW has added two new entry-level models to the 3-Series Touring line-up. The 318i ES Touring starts at £21,645, while the oil-burning 318d ES Touring costs from £24,015.
