I just saw one of Infiniti’s ads in some new car mag where they equate their center console/nav to the layout of a piano. I personally don’t see the resemblance, but I also haven’t liked any iteration of the navigation puck. It’s touch screen or die for me.

And Sick, I have a guess why they chose Bose. Brand recognition! Every time I go to a driving event the car company hosing it asks on their little forms if I’ve ever heard of their stereo company and if my buying decision is at all decided by the name on the stereo in the car. That, or Bose cut them a deal… money never hurts in these type of things.

The interior looks like a big improvement although pretty busy and no wood?

If the audio system is as good as they claim it ought to be really great!

About time Mark Lev had some competition!

Sorry but I just don't like the interior very much. It looks tacky. I think I even like the 2008 CTS interior better. The guage cluster looks like 1/2 Acura 1/2 Audi.

I agree about the Audio and even though I haven't spent any time in either of these cars to comment on the materials quality and actual in-person fit-and-finish - I prefer the layout/design of the G35 over the IS. It's less bulky and playskool-ish - a cleaner presentation if you ask me, wood or not.

I thought this navi was touch screen?

i dont get the vertical vents - looks like SUV or MPV, and interior does look cheap... but it is really hard to judge from few low res pics, definetly gotta see things like that before claiming anything...

Yeah - the vertical vent on driver's side of GS really reminds me of SUV too - so I'd probably die if I sat in it.

It's just how they used the dash/console space. I'm not sure why vertical vents = SUV. But if they do, then GS is 1/4 guilty.

M.

EDIT: Wow, having posted that picture, the GS interior is so much nicer than the G35 ... but I still think that the G35 is fine competition for the IS.

Uhhh dude, those are not vertical but horizontal vents.

Horizontal gives the eye a feeling of width.
Vertical would give the eye a feeling of length.

Lexus has mastered interiors with Audi and a couple other cars. They refuse to jump on the I-drive/joystick bandwagon. Lexus has made top notch interiors since day one in almost everything they have offered. I trust their engineers here.

Infiniti is getting a lot better but still has tons of learning to do in this area.

Look at the driver's vent of the GS dude, it's vertical. And I know about length-width blah blah design talk. I'm just saying, it doesn't matter.

The design of the G35 interior is fine. I'm sure it's cheaper than Lexus' interiors and won't end up feeling or being, objectively, as nice, but the SUV comparo was kinda funny to me.

The circular vents on the far driver/passenger sides of the IS look terrible, btw, reminds me of a Matrix interior. And I'm not just Lexus bashing here - I hate those circular vents on the new Audi A3 too ... they're horrible.

No dude, you're still missing it. The BLADES (louvers, whatever) of the vent are vertical on the G35. On the GS the driver's side one may be taller than it is wide, but the blades are still horizontal.

Oh, I guess I see what you guys are talking about. And I'll agree that the horizontal vents look better.

Good call. They're probably vertical in the G35 because other parts of the car are more vertical than horizontal (for better or worse) like the headlights which were/are stacked.

Circular vents on the IS still = Matrix

Let me count the ways in which the IS is still better than the G35 for all you getting your panties in a bundle:

1.) Two NEW engines (Nissan claims new VQ is "80% new" ... whatever)
2.) Fantastic fuel economy
3.) 6-speed auto
4.) Better pricing & market coverage w/ two tim levels (IS250 / IS350)

I think you may be referring to this auto interior styling gem ...

LOL

That Bonny interior was the WORST INTERIOR EVER ... EVER ... especially for the money ... wow.

Man I've taken this pretty off-topic, so I'll stop now.
