IS owners, breathe a sigh of relief. You'll be good for a while...
I thought I read that something like 40% of the parts were going to be new in this iteration of the VQ.

Its actually 80% new parts in this generation of the VQ. However, there have been rumors of a 3.7L VQ.

I have to agree

Too bad Infiniti stopped making the I35, it was probably the most direct competitor to the ES ... well, @ least the ES330 bc the new ES350 seems to be jumping into the horsepower performance/sport arena ...

Rumor has it that the new G35 will be rated at 306hp and 268lbft tq at 5200rpm.

We shall see what happens. Should be interesting. BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti all with engines rated at 306 hp.

Also hear that the handling is damn good with great feedback and reflexes.

Greatly looking forward to teh performance of this car, but IMO not the design as of yet.

Well then, not sure how it will be any quicker than the last model, as I am sure it will gain weight like all cars do during a new model. Even if it has 310hp or so.

BTW, is that both auto AND manual?

BMW website states that the 335i is rated at 300 hp. However, its 300 torque is class leading.

Does this "rumor" about the G35 have any credibility?

The 335i sedan should launch this fall as well.

Why do I smell a 335i v. IS350 v. G35 comparo in the November issue of C&D. And a victory for ......... the 335i.

My fault, I think yall right about that. Honest mistake.

Not sure if that is for both Auto and Manual, but Im under the impression that this will be it atleast for the auto model.

Found out from another forum. A guy went to some invitation only research program where they compared the new G35 to the TL, A4 2.0T, 325i, and IS250. It was info from a spec sheet that they were given. Before you say it is a crazy comparison, it was most likely based on price.

Cant say this will be it, but we should officially find out in a few months...maybe sooner.

You'd think with that impressive low-end torque the 335i would out-accelerate the heavier and less torqueier IS350 but it does not, at least on paper. Definitely looking forward to magazine comparos on the three.

It's almost a given that it will in real life tests. BMW always under-rates their engines; they have the current 330i's 0-60 in something like 6.5s, and the 1/4 in 14.8, and in real world tests it's a few tenths faster. It should be lighter than both the IS and G35 too. I think for once the BMW will be the quickest.

Wow, now I'm really excited for a mag shootout of the IS350, new G35, and 335i.

Performance between IS350 and 335i should be very close, and if those power figures are indeed true of the new G, then the Infiniti could be left behind in terms of straight-line speed.

In some ways, I hope that those power figures are true, because then it would further cement what many have been saying, which is that Nissan is really stretching it's VQ engine design.

In fact, 306HP @ 7500 RPM, and 268 lb-ft @ 5200 RPM would be dissapointing compared with the IS350, and 335i.

Don't forget, the IS350 has *very* nice HP and torque curves, with torque remaining nearly flat even up to 6K RPM. I think it will be extremely close between IS350 and 335i, with IS350 likely getting better fuel economy.

I agree, BMW horses are always strong. Lexus are accurate. Nissans can go either way, strong or overrated.

Well the torque curve of the 335i should be just as flat if not flatter since the torque is specified in the range from 1,400rpm to 5,000rpm, with the advantage going to the 335i since the peak torque not only is higher but occurs sooner.

Perhaps the 330i doesn't accelerate as fast as it could because of the gear ratios tuned either closely for smoothness, or high for a better top speed? Or of course, BMW simply underrated the car, in which case we'll see in the real world performance results.
