$2000? maybe......but I'm not sure I believe the 75-lbs. part of it.

that looks very nice! but miata doesnt need a hardtop. It looks great with a soft top also.

the real vert that is in serious need of folding hard top is BMW 650i vert.

I still prefer the miata hardtop convertible, I can't imagine ever getting a ragtop after the SC.
I'm particular please with the 75 lb. weight increase if accurate . . .

it might be because of picture taken too close to the car, but it looks like jetson's space pod - that top is weird looking...

It's a small car to begin with, so the hardtop looks like a cereal bowl.

As nice as a hardtop is, it makes the car look disproportionate. Not as sleek or sexy like the SLK. It looks better as a ragtop.

I like it. I'd prefer detachable hard top like the older gen Miatas. I definitely wouldnt mind having a Miata...very fun cars.

It's hardly as sleek as the SC or SLK.

The rear windshield is throwing me off: it should be less vertical; the slope of the rear makes it look like a Kaiser helmet from WW1 (Compare the C-pillars of the SC and Miata).

I'm sure this is a result of trying to use as little material as possible for the metal roof in order to both save weight and preserve trunk space. A case of function over form here.

Its a good idea and the car looks good too, but isnt putting a convirtible hard top is going to make the Miata everything its not supposed to be?

The Miata was introduced as a light, agile, perfectly blanced car... The Zoom Zoom is gone

Mazda announces U.S. pricing for new MX-5 hardtop

Mazda today announced the 2007 Mazda MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top will sell for $24,350. Earlier this week, the automaker announced U.K. pricing for the car, with a mere £1,200 premium over the rag-top version. The U.S. price is just $1,400 more than the regular MX-5 — in line with the $1,500 estimate made by Leftlane News, and significantly less than $2,200 figure floated by other publications.

Looks funky with the top up.

Sick, the 3-series is going to be hardtop.

if u dont like it dont buy it, but it seems like a good option to me and surely does have a market. some people just dont like ragtops... the hardtop offers more security and safety... and is only 75lbs heavier... how can u argue with that? id hit it

Will it sell though? That's the question.

I think Mazda had to lower the price significantly compared to earlier speculation. Will it sell because of the price, or will it sell because it looks good?

I'm betting on the price...

I've had my eye on a Miata, er, MX-5, for years.

It's 8/10s a Boxster for 1/3-1/2 the price. AND it's better looking IMHO.
