Thumbs up 2010

Honda 2 Make Diesel V6 4 U.S. by 2010
Honda is apparently developing a low-emission diesel V6 engine specifically designed for the U.S. market for the 2010 model year. The engine would be most likely to appear in the Odyssey minivan at first, although installation in Acura sedans and SUVs is a possibility.

According to Nikkei Weekly, a Japanese weekly newspaper, the motor will be designed for vehicles currently using Honda's 3.5 liter V6 engine. Honda is also looking to import its newly developed 2.2 liter four-cylinder diesel engine to the United States. This engine is designed to fit in cars such as the CR-V and Acura TSX.

This would probably do better than the MB diesel where they inject urea or something....but is having trouble getting accepted in California

Hope they can bring this Honda Diesel engine to the Philippines when it's out.
The Lexus IS220d is already on sale and Euro V compliant.

It's a win-win situation. Gobs more torque, similar (if not better) mileage, lower weight, much less complex. Why would anyone want a hybrid?

Clean emissions (even the Bluetec diesels are only Tier 2 Bin 5 or ULEV.. same as the Camry, Accord, Altima etc), and the serenity of driving silently in EV mode. Oh and instant torque from the electric motors

Turbo the diesel V6 and you won't need one.

Definitely. A full range of clean, powerful efficient diesels is needed, if not only for Europe, then as a contingency plan for the US.

A better I4, a V6 & a V8 (with bi-turbo versions for their SUV line)

I thought all modern diesels already come turbocharged to get adequate horsepower.

And no, turbo diesel V6's match only the output of N/A gasoline V6's. To match a gasoline V8 with a diesel you still need a V8 to begin with.

loose terms are being used here. What defines "output"? Are we talking horsepower, performance, torque, etc?

The end of the decade looks to be huge for not just Honda, but Toyota too, and likely other automakers.

If Honda/Acura wants to be more than a near lux specialist they
need to build a V8...

the V6 is going to be developed for the Honda line-up. If it shows up in the Acura models, it'll be the TL. The RL will probably be getting a detuned version of the v10 that Honda is currently building for the 'NSX'.

I don't think so... I mean they can get nearly 300hp out of a V6 with current technology. No need a heavy V8.

They have played that "we don't need one" game for too long. How can you seriously offer a truck without a V-8, let alone a luxury brand?
